Position Description

The position will provide senior level technical, operational, and management guidance to PFE-DO.

Manages and directs the daily tasks of individuals and project teams required to perform ongoing support of design, construction, startup and/or operations/maintenance activities of systems, structures, and components at nuclear facilities.

Renders expert opinions on engineering and technical issues, provides recommendations to project design and construction teams in specific areas of expertise.

Provides independent reviews and assessments in areas of specialized expertise and offers guidance to project teams to deliver results on high-hazard/high-consequence projects.

Interfaces with management personnel and customer representatives, preparing and presenting analysis and studies regarding organizational capabilities, performance, and areas for improvement.

Develops and enforces work standards, assigns schedules, reviews work quality, and communicates goals, objectives, and policies of the organization.

Provides leadership for the project teams, coordinates with functional organizations, and advises senior personnel within the PFE division.

Participates in schedule development and planning/scheduling activities for numerous small to moderate sized projects, reviewing and approving costs and schedule estimating activities as needed.

Often leads cooperative efforts among project team members, addressing issues that require evaluation of a variety of factors.

Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer managers, usually involving matters between functional areas performing similar tasks.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and minimum 10 years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards and criteria relevant to engineering processes.

Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities (ASME, NQA‑1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, etc.).

Proven knowledge of common project schedule and cost tracking methodologies and programs (P6, MS Project, EVMS, etc.).

Deep understanding of design development and review processes (30%/60%/90%) and extensive prior experience facilitating design package development.

Deep understanding of technical scope development and senior-level awareness of common engineering design deliverables.

Experience directing multi‑disciplinary engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues in and around nuclear facilities.

Skilled in personnel administration and training of technical and non‑technical staff; skilled in process improvement, analysis, and implementation of common business operations within engineering organizations.

Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to present technical and operational information to management and clients.

Demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems; knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired through specialized instruction or practical experience.

Prior experience in a technical advisor / technical leadership role required.

Other Job Requirements

United States citizenship required.

Active DOE Q Clearance preferred; must be able to obtain and maintain.

The position is onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory; hybrid or remote work cannot be accommodated.
