Overview The Assistant Director of Digital Services oversees a comprehensive digital services program for the UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies (DES) with moderately complex and dynamic digital marketing and strategy requirements. Through a multi-disciplinary approach to marketing, analytics, and digital engagement, the Assistant Director designs and implements data-informed digital strategies to promote DES programs, strengthen brand awareness, and drive enrollment growth. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the position supervises a digital services team in developing and executing integrated digital marketing initiatives. The role serves as the lead point of contact for digital marketing strategy, CRM management, web development and optimization, SEO/SEM, paid digital advertising, analytics, email marketing, and other digital tools and systems, collaborating with communications, creative, marketing, and internal stakeholders to deliver cohesive and measurable results.

Responsibilities • Provide digital strategy, campaign management, and performance analysis services under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications. • Develop digital marketing strategies in coordination with DES leadership and the Marketing team, aligned with campus brand standards and DES-wide goals. • Supervise the digital services team in delivering web, email, CRM, digital advertising strategies, campaign execution, and ongoing optimization of DES’s online presence. • Create and implement strategic digital marketing plans that support internal and external initiatives across multiple levels and channels, including campus stakeholders, prospective students, and the broader community. • Manage digital advertising, search engine marketing and optimization, marketing analytics and reporting, website content strategy, marketing automation, CRM management, digital budget oversight, and data-driven decision-making to improve performance. • Collaborate with senior staff to shape, create, and refine digital marketing objectives that reflect institutional priorities and DES’s mission and goals. • Ensure campaigns are data-informed and optimized for enrollments, revenue, and relationships.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Knowledge of digital marketing principles, concepts, strategies, and best practices, including social media, email, and online advertising campaign management.

Experience with website content management tools and search engine optimization; Kentico CMS experience is a plus.

Experience with paid digital media including search engine marketing and display advertising.

Skills in analytics with experience using tools like Google Analytics or Looker Studio, and ability to create and present analytics reports.

Experience with CRM implementation and strategy, content personalization, and optimizing landing pages, websites, and user funnels.

Creative with ability to identify target audiences and devise digital campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate—driving enrollments, revenue, and relationships.

Up-to-date with latest trends and best practices in online and mobile marketing and measurement.

Strong analytical and written communication skills; ability to translate data into strategic promotional campaigns.

Knowledge of marketing mediums and funding sources; strong project management and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of testing/multi-variate testing and the mission of continuing education and modern professional education techniques.

Thorough knowledge of campus and/or medical center structure, mission, and services.

Ability to supervise recruitment, training, performance management, and discipline.

Experience mentoring less experienced staff.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on background check results.

Must be willing to work weekends or evenings, if needed.

Pay Transparency Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (will be prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68

Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

Additional Notes A cover letter is optional but strongly encouraged. This position offers a hybrid (remote/on-site) work arrangement, requiring at least one on-site workday per week. The on-site location for this role is the Division of Extended Studies at 8980 Villa La Jolla Drive.
