Highway Operations Branch Chief Department of Transportation Under general direction of the District 3 Office Chief of Mobility Programs, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent will have charge of varied and difficult transportation engineering work involving the supervision of associate level engineers and others engaged in highway operations of the transportation network. Directs and supervises transportation engineers, technicians and others whose activities include: project plan review; operational studies; operational investigations; initiation of operational improvement projects; local development and encroachment permit project reviews; and signing and striping installation orders.

Possession of a valid California PE license is required.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Please follow the instructions below; failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may result in the SOQ not being considered and in disqualification from the interview. Each question must be numbered and addressed in the same order as the questions below. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12‑point Arial font.
