Executive Director, AI Initiative, Stanford Law School
Stanford Law School seeks an Executive Director to lead the Initiative on AI Governance and Law. The role reports to Professor Nate Persily, co‑chair of the Initiative’s steering committee, and is full‑time and hybrid eligible.
Responsibilities
Strategic leadership: develop, execute and evaluate the Initiative’s vision, goals and long‑term strategy.
Program development: design and oversee research initiatives, teaching programs, fellowships and public engagement activities.
Research & academic programming: manage shared resources, support faculty research, administer fellowship programs, and coordinate curricular innovation.
Partnerships & outreach: represent the Initiative to internal and external stakeholders; organize conferences, workshops and public events; develop and manage communications, including website and publications.
Development & fundraising: identify and pursue funding opportunities; prepare proposals and reports to sustain and grow impact.
Financial & staff management: lead operational and financial planning; develop staffing strategy; recruit, mentor and manage Initiative staff.
Qualifications
Advanced degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in law, policy, technology or related fields. JD or equivalent strongly preferred.
Demonstrated expertise or strong interest in AI, data science, technology policy or governance.
Experience managing budgets, financial plans, staff and complex programs or initiatives.
Strong record of developing partnerships and securing funding.
Exceptional oral, written and analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively in an academic setting.
