Job Summary Perform design of one or more moderately complex or portions of structural components and functional systems of company products. Generally work from preliminary studies developed by higher graded engineers. Analyze requirements for materials, structural components, or functional systems. Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem, and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs, and requirements of other portions of the product. Release results as design data after review by higher graded engineer. Develop original ideas and elaborate on preliminary design concepts. Evaluate completed design with supervisor and other technical groups and make modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.
Job Responsibilities
Perform design of one or more moderately complex or portions of structural components and functional systems
With limited supervision, apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of more complex components, structures, and sub-assemblies
Respond in a timely manner to all requests and explore all avenues within authority and make appropriate referrals to other sources
Make thoughtful and valuable suggestions and recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work
Establish requirements for materials, structural components, and functional systems
Release results as design data after review from other engineers
Document results of design activities
Basic Qualifications – Level 2
Requires a STEM degree. A Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of experience or a Master’s degree with 0 or more years of experience. Degrees in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering preferred.
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship as a pre-requisite
Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation, and critical‑thinking skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Working knowledge of computer‑aided design (CAD) software
Knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Preferred Qualifications – Level 2
Current active Security Clearance
Working knowledge of NX
Knowledge of general machine shop fabrication processes; additive manufacture experience desirable
Understanding of design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM)
Ability and willingness to travel

Salary Information Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 – $125,200.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 – $155,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Benefits Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice‑President or Director positions may be eligible for Long‑Term Incentives.
