Special Education Attorney Our client is a for-profit education advocacy and legal services organization focused on
Individualized Education Program (IEP)
representation. Their mission is to ensure that students with disabilities receive the educational services and accommodations guaranteed under federal and New York State law. They work closely with families, educators, and specialists to navigate the special education system effectively and achieve measurable outcomes for their clients.
The Role We are seeking a
knowledgeable and motivated Special Education Attorney
to join our growing legal team in Brooklyn. This role is ideal for an attorney who is experienced in special education law and passionate about advocating for students and families within the IEP process.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients in administrative hearings, due process proceedings, and resolution sessions
Advocate for appropriate educational services, accommodations, and placements under IDEA, Section 504, and NY State education law
Review, develop, and challenge IEPs, evaluations, and related educational records
Collaborate with educators, psychologists, service providers, and other professionals to support effective educational planning
Conduct legal research and prepare briefs, motions, and case documentation
Communicate clearly and compassionately with families, explaining legal options and procedural rights
Maintain accurate case files and meet internal productivity and performance standards
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Admission to practice law in New York State (required)
Prior experience in special education law, education law, disability rights, or administrative hearings (strongly preferred)
Familiarity with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and New York education regulations
Strong advocacy, negotiation, and oral communication skills
Excellent legal research, writing, and organizational abilities
Ability to manage a caseload efficiently in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
