Orbach Huff & Henderson, LLP is seeking a special education and student services attorney with two or more years of litigation experience. The new associate attorney will work in our special education and student services practice to creatively and compassionately support our clients in their work to educate children. An interested attorney should bring an interest in helping schools, an ability to find creative solutions to often complex legal and factual issues, and an ability to navigate difficult conversations with patience and empathy. Priority consideration will be given to attorneys with professional and personal experience in education, disabilities, and civil rights.
Minimum Qualifications
An active license to practice law in the state of California
3+ years practicing law in California
Excellent time management
Manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously
Strong research and writing skills
Synthesize complex legal and factual concepts
Compose high-quality written correspondence
Confidence in communicating with clients, courts, and counsel
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years practicing law in California
Prior defense litigation experience
Experience with administrative law
1+ year experience with special education (e.g. IEPs, 504 Plans, CASA)
Experience with related areas of law (FERPA, CPRA, Lanterman Act, etc.)
Position Summary An interested attorney will join our team and learn Special Education Law through leadership and mentoring. Our team has a robust training program to ensure confidence and support ongoing skill development. An interested Attorney will directly handle cases, review documents, conduct research, speak with clients, write memos, review policies and procedures, write and respond to complaints, handle motions, attend mediations, negotiate settlements, and prosecute matters through hearings and appeals. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, contributing to the firm’s publications, presenting workshops, and attending conferences and networking functions.

In addition to our special education and student practice services, our firm represents private companies and public agencies in real estate and construction litigation as well as other litigation matters. Our practice areas require a high degree of detail-oriented focus, excellent writing and presentation skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of our team. We offer a collaborative and supportive work environment focusing on personal and professional growth.
Technology Our attorneys use and must be familiar with the Windows operating system. They must be proficient using a computer, knowledgeable navigating software, and the internet. The office uses Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Attorneys will need to become proficient with M‑Files (for file management) and Coyote Analytics (for billing). Training will be provided. Experience is preferred.
