Position Overview

The Project Manager / Estimator will be responsible for evaluating project specifications, engineering drawings, and proposal documents to develop accurate estimates and oversee project execution for Geotechnical and Deep Foundation projects. This role combines hands‑on project management with detailed estimating responsibilities and requires strong technical expertise in specialty foundation construction. The position works closely with operations, engineering, and field teams to ensure projects are accurately bid, well‑planned, and successfully delivered.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management Responsibilities

Support project planning, scheduling, and coordination from award through execution.

Assist in preparing submittals, schedules, procurement plans, and documentation for active projects.

Coordinate with field operations to ensure project requirements, estimates, and execution plans are aligned.

Monitor project progress, cost performance, and material/resource needs as required.

Participate in project meetings with clients, designers, field staff, and internal stakeholders.

Provide technical input on geotechnical and deep foundation means, methods, sequencing, and safety considerations.

Review project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to determine project scope and identify technical requirements.

Attend pre‑bid meetings, conduct site visits, and participate in post‑bid discussions, including scope reviews and negotiations.

Evaluate design alternatives and recommend solutions based on engineering feasibility, constructability, cost, and material availability.

Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for deep foundations, ground improvement, shoring, and related geotechnical techniques.

Assist in preparing bid packages for subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.

Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to finalize estimates and ensure alignment with project execution strategies.

Draft proposal content, project narratives, schedules, and client‑facing presentations.

Maintain organized estimate files, including vendor pricing, historical cost data, production records, and backup documentation.

Incorporate lessons learned and historical project performance data into current estimates.

Assist with additional estimating tasks as assigned by the Estimating Manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related field.

5+ years of experience in estimating, project management, or construction engineering within heavy civil, geotechnical, or deep foundation construction.

Strong understanding of construction estimating techniques, cost control, and project documentation.

Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and similar software platforms.

Experience using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project preferred.

Ability to quickly adopt new technologies and business intelligence tools.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients, engineers, and field personnel.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with complex technical challenges.
