Section Chief, Chronic Disease, Violence, and Injury Epidemiology (Epidemiology Investigation Project Manager) Lead and manage statewide epidemiology programs focused on chronic disease, health promotion, and violence/injury prevention.

Responsibilities

Oversee surveillance systems including OH‑VDRS, SUDORS, EpiCenter, ODRS, and BRFSS.

Ensure data collection, analysis, storage, and distribution meet state and federal standards (e.g., CDC).

Provide technical assistance and consultation to data owners such as coroners, law enforcement, and medical examiners.

Develop and administer federal and state grants; manage program budgets and funding allocations.

Act as principal investigator on complex public health grants and projects.

Supervise and develop staff, including onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.

Plan and implement epidemiologic studies, surveillance systems, and data management tools.

Ensure scientific integrity, data quality, and compliance with confidentiality and security protocols.

Serve as Data Steward, managing researcher data requests and supporting grant applications.

Interpret and communicate study findings to internal staff, policy makers, and the public.

Prepare reports, publications, and presentations for technical and general audiences.

Coordinate with other surveillance systems and public health programs to improve data efficiency.

Qualifications

Completion of a graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine.

24 months experience in epidemiology investigation with a local or federal health agency, including at least 12 months in supervisory principles/techniques or performing duties comparable with those of an Epidemiology Investigation Supervisor (65765).

One course in budgeting or 3 months experience in preparing budgets for an operational unit.

OR 6 months experience as an Epidemiology Investigation Supervisor (65765).

OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the minimum class qualifications noted above.

Location: Health Department Building, United States of America‑OHIO‑Franklin County‑Columbus

Schedule: Full‑time

Compensation: $43.09 per hour

Work Hours: 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM
