Responsibilities
Clinical duties assigned involve work in the outpatient setting at the Fargo VAHCS Pathology or as otherwise specified based on the unique skills of the candidate and needs of the facility. It is anticipated that the position will be approximately 25% administrative and 75% clinical but may vary depending on the needs of the service line. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday 0800-1630. Full-time staff are required to work a minimum of 80 hrs per pay period (every two weeks) unless on leave status. Supervise directly physicians, lab chief, lab manager and other clinical staff as assigned by the Chief of Staff. Manage and provide oversight of lab and pathology operations within the clinical services under their responsibility at the Fargo VA Health Care System and affiliated CBOCs. Includes coordination of work schedules, responsibility for clinical performance measures and other administrative/clinical functions within the department. Collaborate with other leaders within the ICC and facility to ensure optimization of resources in the care delivery model. Provide physician/clinical/administrative leadership and serve as an advisor to other Pathologists and leaders in the Diagnostic ICC. Participate in activities/committees/boards impacting patient care/access as assigned. Manage/approve leave schedules and respective Time & Leave sections to ensure adequate coverage for planned leaves and contingency planning for unexpected absences, with accurate/timely leave approvals and labor mapping. Develop, manage/ conduct Pay-for-Performance, OPPE, FPPE, and performance evaluations for those under supervision as appropriate. Ensure staff under supervision maintains required training/competence in a timely manner. Share budgetary responsibility and authority for funds allocated to the Service Line in the local department budgeting process. Work with Executive/ICC, department leadership, and Human Resources staff to ensure adequate and appropriate staffing for all assigned areas. Recruit, hire, evaluate, discipline, and terminate actions for assigned staff. Collaborate with ICC operations team and other staff as appropriate to resolve operations issues/problems with clear resolution, communication, and implementation timelines. Review, interpret, and use performance reports, benchmark data, budget/cost documents, staffing, and other reports in decision-making. Understand managed care practices, including health care finance, billing, coding, and documentation. Promote the use of current technology for patient data tracking, orders, and encounters. Contribute to development and maintenance of relations with internal and external entities including medical and nursing schools, local health care entities, and other Fargo VAHCS departments including IT, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Finance, HR, and others; participate in task forces, decision-making, and policy development bodies. Participate in local administrative, management, safety, quality assurance/performance, and other assignments, meetings or committees as assigned. ACOS performance reflects support of the Health Care System Director’s and VISN goals regarding pathology and Lab measures. Complete pathology and laboratory readings, clinical notes, alerts and sign notes in a timely manner as described in medical staff bylaws. Requirements
