Introduction to Team

The Traveler Business Team builds and drives growth for our global consumer businesses—Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. This division creates compelling and differentiated traveler value for each brand by setting the strategic vision, operating strategy, and plan. Responsibilities include investment allocation and prioritization, P&L accountability, and leading cross-functional teams across Expedia Group, who are all held accountable to a single scorecard. In this role, you will:

You will write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions and in a way that enables efficient and accurate translation into a data pipeline. You will work on advanced GenAI models (LLMs) to drive marketing content optimization, leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance content relevance, improve engagement, and streamline processes for better business outcomes. You will apply an understanding of supervised and unsupervised machine learning theory. You will tackle business problems by applying fundamental machine learning models, algorithms and techniques using standard libraries. You will modify/adapt models and techniques to suit business needs. You will independently conduct proper model performance evaluation without help. You will build an end-to-end design of one step model based on detailed understanding of business requirements, including approach, choice of algorithm and data sources. You will seek relevant academic papers and experience to point out strengths and weaknesses of current models and recommend more sophisticated designs when needed. You will select valid approaches, appropriate in terms of level of effort, favoring iterative delivery that solves for the objective, not the ask (i.e., not just order-taking). Use advanced and sophisticated understanding of the business problem space to inform the design of the solution. You will communicate a compelling rationale and narrative to peers and partners. You will influence action and results through writing clearly in an accessible way for a wide audience. Anticipate questions, structuring presentations around a clear narrative, and is concise in what's included. Present clearly and engagingly. You will frame challenging business problems as a data science problem and concrete set of tasks. You will leverage others’ skills, knowledge, and expertise effectively in problem solving and delivering impact. You will manage stakeholders with frequent communication, expectation management, meeting deadlines and minimizing surprises. You will manage the backlog well, including across large cross-functional teams. Deliver projects to maximize business impact coordinated with wider business timing. Experience and Qualifications:

Bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, physics, engineering, operations research, data science or similar 6+ years of experience in industry or equivalent Strong proficiency with Python / R and SQL. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain multiple data science project/product in production environments. Extensive experience one or more of the following: advanced statistical techniques for A/B testing, methods for experimental design, observational causal inference, or quasi-experimental analysis Record of accomplishment for executing independent projects and leading complex, multi-functional projects with several dependencies. You understand the concepts and steps involved in working with real-world large data sets: from domain-specific problem understanding, data preparation, travel-related data processing, data integration, data structures for ML, data modeling, and AI/ML algorithms; strong data science knowledge and skills. You have working and/or theoretical knowledge on NLP and Transformers Advanced proficiency in GitHub for collaborative development and version control Proficient in cloud computing, specializing in big data applications and leveraging MLOps for streamlined machine learning model deployment. You have proven knowledge of ML techniques such as Neural Networks, XGBoost, Bayesian methods, clustering, decision trees, random forests, NLP, etc., excellent grasp of statistical concepts and methods. The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role. Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
