IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting is currently looking for HEAD OF MAINTENANCE, RELIABILITY AND ENGINEERING for our West Virginia client.
IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently supporting our client—a leader in the petrochemical and fine‑chemicals sector—in their search for an accomplished Head of Maintenance, Reliability & Engineering. This is a high‑impact leadership role responsible for maximizing plant reliability, ensuring equipment safety, and driving world‑class maintenance and engineering performance across a modern, highly sophisticated production facility.
This individual will lead a multidisciplinary team of maintenance and reliability professionals, overseeing preventive and predictive programs, championing equipment reliability, and providing technical expertise across turbines, compressors, centrifuges, high‑pressure steam systems, DCS controls, electrical assets, and other advanced technologies supplied by global OEMs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Team Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of maintenance, reliability, and technical personnel; provide hands‑on guidance, training, feedback, and succession planning.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Maintenance & Reliability Strategy
Develop and execute maintenance and reliability strategies aligned with plant objectives and industry best practices.
Drive initiatives to enhance asset reliability, minimize downtime, and extend equipment lifecycle.
Serve as the plant’s Equipment Reliability Champion, providing expert support on equipment selection, troubleshooting, optimization, and major improvement projects.
Operational Excellence
Partner with Engineering, Production, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to streamline workflows, resolve technical issues, and improve operational KPIs.
Lead root‑cause analyses and corrective‑action implementation for equipment failures and performance gaps.
Establish and monitor KPIs for equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and workforce effectiveness.
Maintenance Execution
Oversee preventive, predictive, and reliability‑centered maintenance activities.
Plan and schedule maintenance to optimize labor, minimize interruptions, and maximize uptime.
Manage spare‑parts inventory, implementing controls to optimize stock levels, reduce carry costs, and improve readiness.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including Process Safety Management (PSM).
Maintain accurate and complete records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and compliance reporting.
Budget & Continuous Improvement
Develop and manage the maintenance budget; forecast expenditures, control costs, and identify opportunities for cost and efficiency optimization.
Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives such as RCM, TPM, Lean, and reliability‑focused methodologies.
Support engineering and construction programs for debottlenecking, expansions, and upgrades.
Collaborate with project and construction teams on future phases of facility growth.
Participate in technical training and development of apprentices, trainees, and operations personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
15+ years of progressive maintenance and reliability experience within petrochemical or chemical manufacturing environments.
Strong leadership experience managing diverse technical teams; proven ability to motivate, coach, and influence.
Extensive hands‑on expertise with industrial equipment, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis.
Deep knowledge of modern maintenance methodologies (preventive, predictive, RCM, TPM) and equipment reliability practices.
Proficiency in maintenance management systems and digital reliability tools.
Strong analytical and decision‑making skills with a collaborative mindset.
Comprehensive understanding of PSM, HSE regulations, and plant‑safety compliance.
Ability to work in plant/field environments, including exposure to chemicals, heat/cold, and operating machinery.
Willingness to work on‑call or outside normal hours as required.
