Summary

This position is eligible for the

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) , a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet VHA eligibility requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts up to $200,000 and an eligibility period of 1 to 5 years are reviewed by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.

Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm

Duties

Review and implement pharmacotherapy and treatment guidelines with independent prescribers.

Actively review patient medication regimens for clinical effectiveness, drug selection, dosing, contraindications, side effects, potential drug interactions, and therapeutic outcomes; communicate findings to prescribers.

Provide pharmaceutical care to selected patients (e.g., hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, heart failure, COPD, pain, smoking cessation, anticoagulation, and anemia management) and serve as an intensive medication therapy management consultant.

Serve as primary or alternate consultant for Home‑Based Primary Care Service and backup for specialty clinics (anticoagulation, hepatitis C, erythropoietin).

Monitors for and reports drug errors, adverse drug reactions, allergies, and patient compliance issues; documents findings per facility procedures.

Participate in training and in‑servicing of medical staff, nursing staff, pharmacy staff, residents, students, and allied health professionals.

Effectively instruct patients and family members in the appropriate use of medications and medical devices; assess comprehension.

Assist in the development, enhancement, and operation of resident and student training programs; serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.

Assist in designing and completing research studies involving clinical pharmacy functions, quality assurance, drug use evaluation or pharmacotherapy.

Conditions of Employment

U.S. citizenship required.

All applicants selected for VA employment are subject to a urinalysis drug‑use screening prior to appointment.

Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Proficient in written and spoken English.

Subject to background/security investigation.

Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.

May be required to complete credentialing and onboarding processes.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.

Veterans’ preference does not apply for internal or other current permanent Federal agency employees.

Qualifications

Graduate of an ACPE‑accredited college or school of pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or a Pharm.D. degree.

Full, current and unrestricted pharmacy license in the United States.

Proficient in spoken and written English.

1 year of experience equivalent to GS‑12 or completion of an ACPE‑accredited Pharm.D. program (preferred 2 years as a clinical pharmacy specialist with 1 year in women’s health).

Preferred Experience

2 years as a clinical pharmacy specialist, with 1 year specializing in women’s health.

Physical Requirements

Moderate lifting (14‑44 lb), reaching above shoulder, moderate carrying, use of fingers, walking (3 hours/day), standing (up to 8 hours/day). Near vision 13″‑16″; far vision 20/20 and 20/40. Hearing aid permitted.
