Job Description
The Assurance Manager will be responsible for supervising, directing and reviewing the results of audit engagements from planning through field work and wrap‑up. They will also handle marketing, networking, business development, engagement profitability, billings and collections, and advise clients on economic and regulatory risks, resolve complex accounting issues, apply GAAP and GAAS, write technical consultation memos, and document, validate, test and assess financial reporting control systems.
Job Duties
Control Environment
Apply knowledge of factors affecting control effectiveness and risk mitigation.
Understand objectives and components of the overall control environment and supervisory controls.
Validate and assess internal control over financial reporting.
Understand benefit plan internal controls and SOC 1 reports.
Advise management and audit committee on improving internal controls and accounting procedures.
Delegate audit functions to appropriate staff.
Supervise audit team and review workpapers, preferably onsite.
Provide on‑the‑job training to engagement staff.
GAAP
Apply governing principles to client transactions and document understanding.
Consult with clients on new accounting pronouncements.
Monitor and communicate professional and industry pronouncements.
Present alternative GAAPs and arguments for/against alternatives.
Draft complex financial statements and footnote disclosures.
Document resolution of complex accounting issues with BDO technical experts.
GAAS
Apply professional standard principles on engagements.
Use statistical sampling and other efficiency tools.
Provide guidance to staff and affirm their conclusions.
Communicate required reports to committees and governance bodies.
Methodology
Apply BDO standards for quality service delivery.
Review audit to ensure adherence to assurance manual standards.
Prepare or review communications to management and committees.
Recommend outcomes for critical issues.
Initiate client acceptance/retention procedures.
Plan audit process and oversee execution with efficiency and quality.
Execute BDO methodology and maintain proper archiving procedures.
Research
Use authoritative sources to reach conclusions on target issues.
Define research methodology and complete projects timely.
Apply research tools and draw conclusions.
Prepare memo supporting research findings.
Present issues to RTD or reviewer.
Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Oversee work of Associates and Senior Associates.
Review their work and provide feedback.
Act as a career advisor.
Schedule and manage workload.
Provide performance feedback.
Coach Seniors and Associates for on‑the‑job learning.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
MBA or Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred)
Experience
Five (5) or more years in public accounting (required)
Three (3) years of supervisory experience (required)
Prior work experience with employee benefit plans within the last three (3) years (required)
License/Certifications
Licensed CPA or international equivalent (required)
Software
Experience with assurance applications and research tools required.
Microsoft Office (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Salary Range
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $110,000 - $150,000
