We are seeking an ambitious, forward-thinking Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Director team and provide strategic financial leadership during a period of significant organisational growth and opportunity.

Main duties of the job This is a broad executive role that combines financial stewardship, commercial development and system leadership. The CFO will lead the finance function while also playing a pivotal role to securing new contracts, shaping bids and business cases, supporting social and system investment, developed innovative commercial frameworks to helping Nimbuscare grow sustainably within the evolving NHS contractual and collaborative environment.
Working closely with the Chief Executive and fellow Executive Directors, the CFO will help define and deliver Nimbuscares long-term strategy, ensuring the organisation remains financially resilient, values-led and positioned as a trusted partner within the health and care system.
About us Nimbuscare is a GP-led provider organisation delivering urgent care, community services and neighbourhood-based models of care across York and North Yorkshire. We exist to improve patient outcomes, reduce health inequalities and support the sustainability of primary and community care through collaboration, innovation and strong system partnerships.
As an organisation, we are evolving towards a multi-neighbourhood provider (MNP) model aligned to the future direction of the NHSsupporting care closer to home, prevention, integration and digital transformation. We work in close partnership with general practice, acute trusts, local authorities, voluntary sector organisations and system commissioners.
Job responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
Lead the development and delivery of Nimbuscares financial strategy, aligned to organisational values and long-term ambitions
Provide clear, timely and insightful financial advice to the Board, Executive Team and senior leaders
Oversee financial planning, forecasting, reporting and risk management across the organisation
Ensure strong financial governance, controls and compliance with NHS, regulatory and contractual requirements
Finance Function Leadership
Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing finance team capable of supporting a growing, complex organisation
Build finance capability that is proactive, commercially aware and embedded within operational and clinical decision-making
Strengthen systems, processes and data to support transparency, assurance and continuous improvement
Growth, Bidding and Commercial Development
Play a leading role in identifying, shaping and securing new opportunities aligned to Nimbuscares strategic direction
Lead and support competitive bid writing, tender submissions, pricing models and financial business cases
Work closely with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues to ensure bids are robust, deliverable and sustainable
Support mobilisation and financial set-up of new services and contracts once secured
System Leadership and Partnerships
Build strong, credible relationships across the wider health and care system, including ICBs, NHS providers, local authorities and partners
Support social investment, infrastructure development and innovative funding approaches where appropriate
Act as a visible and trusted senior leader representing Nimbuscare externally
Strategic Development and Future NHS Readiness
Contribute actively to organisational strategy, service development and executive decision-making
Support Nimbuscares evolution towards larger-scale, longer-term contractual opportunities within the future NHS
Provide financial insight and challenge to enable innovation while maintaining sustainability and value for money
Person Specification Experience
Significant experience in a complex, regulated or public-service environment, ideally within healthcare
Proven track record of leading finance teams through growth, change and increasing complexity
Experience developing and securing successful bids, tenders or commercial proposals
Experience working within or alongside the NHS, commissioning or provider organisations
Understanding of neighbourhood health, integrated care or population-based models
Experience of social investment, infrastructure funding or partnership-based delivery models
Personal Attributes
Values-driven and aligned with Nimbuscares commitment to quality, collaboration and patient-centred care
Commercially astute but grounded in public service ethos
Collaborative, inclusive and able to work effectively across professional and organisational boundaries
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and shaping solutions in a changing NHS landscape
Qualifications
Professionally qualified senior finance leader ( e.g. CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA , ICAEW) with full membership and evidence of up to date continuing professional development
Skills and Knowledge
Strong strategic, analytical and financial modelling skills
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to operate at Board and system level
