Location: Washington, DC (Remote or EST hours)

Job Summary Working under the authority of a Practice Leader or Managing Director, the Assurance Director, Risk Advisory Services (RAS) is responsible for managing and delivering high‑value solutions to multiple clients in areas such as Internal Auditing, Enterprise Risk Management, Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance, IT audit & control, financial & operational audit, fraud investigations, and business process improvement. The role leads a team of professionals through all engagement stages, ensuring exceptional client service and high‑quality deliverables, while driving new business development and project administration.

Job Duties

Act as a high‑level contact for clients regarding questions, progress, challenges, and issues.

Conduct informational interviews and facilitate client management meetings during engagement processes.

Collaborate with the engagement Practice Leader or Managing Director to communicate control gaps and suggested improvements to client management and audit committees.

Ensure client service teams analyze processes, risks, and controls for effectiveness.

Oversee development of risk‑based audit plans and efficient project plans.

Approve engagement budgets and seek approvals from the Practice Leader or Managing Director.

Ensure timely billings, collections, and recommend adjustments to engagement realizations.

Direct staff to use research aids and industry resources for deeper client understanding.

Maintain strategic relationships with client personnel, including management.

Prepare formal and informal client presentations.

Collaborate with RAS Practice Leader or Managing Directors and other BDO practice leaders to expand market presence.

Identify new business opportunities and communicate them to the Partner or Managing Director.

Develop draft proposals and reports in coordination with the Practice Leader or Managing Director.

Manage marketing and business development activities within the practice.

Produce thought‑leadership whitepapers and presentations relevant to clients and the profession.

Maintain a positive demeanor, learning attitude, and client‑service mentality within the team.

Meet business‑development targets set by the Practice Leader.

Travel up to 25‑75% of the time as required.

Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise workload and review work product of RAS Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates.

Ensure staff training on relevant software.

Evaluate performance and assist in goal setting for professional development.

Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete performance evaluations per firm guidance.

Mentor RAS Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates as appropriate.

Lead with a professional, positive attitude toward clients and firm personnel.

Education & Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or Business Intelligence (required).

MBA or other advanced degree (preferred).

CIA, CPA, CISA, or equivalent certification (required).

Experience

10+ years in a public accounting firm or Fortune 1000 company performing risk assessments, internal audits, SOX readiness, control assessments, and consulting.

Experience auditing specific industries such as manufacturing, retail, distribution, energy, or financial services.

5+ years supervisory experience.

Experience in client marketing and successful participation in client pursuits and proposals.

Public accounting experience preferred.

Software & Technical Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Experience with ACL, IDEA, Power BI, and MS Access (preferred).

Ability to multi‑task independently and in group settings.

Collaborate with partners, MDs, directors, and other service lines.

Superior analytical and diagnostic skills; ability to propose solutions.

Work effectively in a deadline‑driven environment with attention to detail.

Solid project‑management skills.

Experience with assurance applications and research tools appropriate to this level.
