Office Nurse | Ossipee Family Medicine – Huggins Hospital
Under the general supervision of the Practice Director, the Office Nurse works with Providers and the practice team to coordinate and ensure the delivery of quality care and medical services.
Responsibilities Direct Clinical Care
Accurately documents patient's chief complaint, medical history, and vital signs and completes pertinent forms within the Electronic Medical Record and in accordance with the Best Practice Work Flows.
Prepares/instructs/positions and drapes the patient.
Performs EKGs, rapid strep screens, pregnancy tests, INR, flu swabs, and other tests that may be ordered by the Physician or Provider in accordance with CLIA waived regulations.
Performs phlebotomy as needed.
Assists in minor surgeries and procedures such as pap smears, suturing, dressing changes, catheterizations, skin lesion excision and casting utilizing appropriate aseptic and sterile technique.
Provides patients with educational materials in collaboration with the Provider; instructs patients about medications, diet, exercise, care plan goals and preventative guidelines specific to the diagnosis.
Prepares and administers medication as directed by Physician or Provider or as indicated in the patient record.
Ensures timely telephone assessments, including triage of appropriate care for patients with accurate documentation and prioritized scheduling.
Orders medications within Hospital policy for refills and prescription processing.
In collaboration with the patient’s Provider, provides nurse visits that enhance compliance with treatment plan goals. Documents each visit to allow for appropriate coding and billing.
Patient Access And Office Coordination
Schedules appointments and completes orders for procedures, tests, and consultations with other Providers as requested.
Completes and processes referrals, pre-certifications, or pre-approvals as needed.
Answers the telephone, files, and retrieves records as needed.
Ensures efficient patient flow and provides timely assessment of patients presenting at the office.
Clinical Support
Provides clinical support for all Providers and Physicians.
Assists Providers and Physicians with review of reports and clinical studies.
Assists Providers and Physicians with communication to patients regarding test results, recommendations and responses to treatment plans.
Prepares the examination room with needed supplies, instruments, and equipment, and maintains the room in a clean manner.
Ensures the Providers and Physicians are on schedule, mindful of emergencies and unexpected interruptions.
Prepares specimens and documentation for processing or transportation to processing facility.
Ensures vaccines are handled and administered in accordance with standards of the NH Immunization Program with provision for reporting of adverse events.
Acts as a clinical leader and a mentor in the practice providing feedback and guidance to Medical Assistants.
Communicates clinical education needs to the Practice Coordinator and Practice Director to optimize functional team capacity.
Works with the Practice Director and Practice Coordinator to improve and/or implement clinical workflows within the practice.
Works with Care Coordinators and Quality Management liaisons to help close identified patient care gaps; inspire clinical teams to strive for targeted quality goals; and link patients and their family members to resources for optimal care compliance.
Supply, Equipment And Medication Coordination
Supervises the maintenance of an inventory of supplies and equipment as required to perform clinical services.
Ensures that emergency equipment is checked and functional.
Cares, cleans, and sterilizes equipment per instructions or established procedures.
Ensures hazardous materials are stored, handled, and disposed of in accordance with Hospital policies.
Ensures vaccines are stored in accordance with standards of the NH Immunization Program.
Works in collaboration with the Pharmacy Department regarding patients who are in need/eligible for sample medications, adhering to established process of communication and procurement at Huggins pharmacy.
Orders medical supplies and medications/immunizations as needed and keeps exam rooms and bathrooms stocked.

Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
Ability to communicate effectively with co‑workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
Familiarity with computer and other business machines.
Qualifications
Education: Completion of RN or LPN program.
Experience: One year office experience preferred.
License and Certification: NH RN or LPN license, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
