Hiring Physician (Gastroenterologist) – Lovely Harlingen, TX
Overview The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System is seeking a Gastroenterologist to provide comprehensive care for patients with illnesses within the scope of Gastroenterology, with a focus on hepatitis. This position will be located at the Health Care Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center in Harlingen, TX.
Responsibilities
Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings.
Identify patients’ health problems and design diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
Coordinate activities of other health service personnel, resolve issues affecting patient care, and educate patients and families about care, illness, and management.
Allocate sufficient time to administrative duties as needed.
Procedures
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy/colonoscopy procedures.

Pay and Benefits
Pay:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Annual Compensation Estimate:
$340,000.
Paid Time Off:
50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid CME).
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution.
Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care (many federal programs transferable to retirement).
Licensure:
One full, unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
CME:
Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification).
Malpractice:
Free liability protection with tail coverage.
Contract:
No physician employment contract; no significant restriction on moonlighting.
