Brief Description of Duties The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) seeks a Program Director to develop, implement, and manage a certificate and associate degree program for Paramedics. The role includes establishing the program at UDC‑Community College, overseeing all program aspects, ensuring accreditation compliance, recruiting and retaining students, and providing professional leadership for faculty and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Initiate the Paramedic Program and guide faculty through accreditation, curriculum development, site visits, and self‑study review.

Administer and supervise program operations, including clinical and field experience liaison orientation and capital field internship preceptor training.

Lead program management and faculty/staff management, recruiting and training qualified paramedic faculty.

Support faculty and supervise clinical preceptors.

Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate paramedic faculty and staff.

Student development and support: recruit, advise, and retain students; increase enrollment; maintain high graduation rates;

Ensure students are informed about licensure, certification, and professional development pathways; monitor student progress.

Oversee clinical placements and capstone projects; coordinate clinical relationships with hospitals, EMS agencies, and affiliates; manage scheduling, evaluation, and assessment of clinical rotations.

Maintain professional credentials and participate in EMS associations; attend professional development workshops and conferences.

Regulatory and financial oversight: monitor compliance with state and federal regulations and DC licensing requirements; develop program budget and manage resources.

Quality review and improvement: conduct continuous review of course assessments, pass rates, and self‑study data.

Ensure accreditation compliance: maintain accreditation through CoAEMSP, facilitate self‑studies, annual reports, and site visits.

Academic oversight: curriculum planning and development using data and current trends.

Supervise and orient/ train clinical and capstone field internship preceptors.

Continuous professional development: provide ongoing training for faculty and mentor adjunct faculty.

Facilitate communication and serve as liaison between faculty, administration, clinical partners, and accrediting bodies; lead program meetings and communicate updates.

Minimum Job Requirements

At least 3 years of EMS education experience, including teaching and administrative roles; proven leadership in accredited educational programs is a plus.

Documented experience in instructional methodology.

Equivalency to paramedic academic training and/or experience.

Experience as a practicing paramedic, preferably in urban EMS settings with diverse populations.

Experience with CoAEMSP accreditation processes and successful accreditation reviews is preferred.

A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred); degree should be in a health‑related profession, EMS, or education.

Current paramedic certification and eligibility for licensure in D.C.; additional qualifications as required by CoAEMSP standards.
