It covers all aspects of tax planning and transactions, dispute resolution (administrative and litigation), tax policy, transfer pricing, indirect taxes, and wealth‑management tax advice and planning.

Role Overview Baker McKenzie seeks a mid- to senior‑level transactional tax associate to join its Tax Practice in the United States. In this role, you will advise a diverse range of clients on the structuring of domestic and cross‑border investments in various asset classes, private investment offerings, and mergers and acquisitions, and draft and negotiate related contracts and investment documents. You will also draft memoranda and opinions on current, complex US tax issues.

Candidate Qualifications The successful candidate will have 3–7 years of relevant tax experience in some of the following areas: real‑estate taxation (including REITs, qualified opportunity zones, and 1031 like‑kind exchanges), private equity (including fund formation, carried‑interest structures, and M&A), partnership tax and joint ventures, energy (including tax‑credit monetization transactions), and family‑office structuring and related issues. The candidate must enjoy operating in a dynamic environment and be able to work with colleagues in different practice groups and countries. In addition, the candidate must enjoy learning and embracing new, developing areas of tax law with limited formal guidance. Top academic credentials are a prerequisite; an LLM in taxation is not required but may be favorably considered.

Pay Transparency

This position is bonus eligible and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) based on the number of hours worked.

The US base compensation for this position is expected to be $260,000 to $435,000 (annually or hourly) if located in an office in California, Illinois, New York, or Washington, DC. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
