Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability
Zurich North America is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability to join our Specialties Construction team. This role may be based at any Zurich office location or remote, at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Responsibilities
Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Develop and maintain relationships with Line of Business representatives to support referrals and other business-related needs.
Provide guidance to lower-level associates.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition and determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
Support the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while identifying sound business opportunities.
Make broker/customer onsite calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter Level
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 8+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
Basic Qualifications – AVP, Underwriter Director Level
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 7+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area.
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 14+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 12+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)
Bachelor’s Degree.
Technical knowledge of Construction Professional Liability underwriting.
Established broker relationships (retail brokers).
Sales execution mindset.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Pay ranges are based on role, location, skills, and experience. Potential bonus and merit increases are available.
Executive Underwriter: $98,500 – $165,000 base with 15% short‑term bonus eligibility.
AVP, Underwriter Director: $130,000 – $215,000 base with 20% short‑term bonus eligibility.
