We at John Hancock / Manulife are seeking a passionate and experienced Technical Product Owner to drive the development and delivery of key capabilities that align to our business strategic goals. Your primary focus will be delivering Generative AI features to production for life insurance underwriting. Over time, you’ll contribute to other strategic initiatives across our technology portfolio. This role will influence priorities and ensure alignment with business objectives, while collaborating closely with business stakeholders, engineering and quality teams (among others). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and a deep understanding of customer‑centric product development. In this role, you will be responsible for communicating effectively with business stakeholders, gathering business requirements, and translating them into actionable technical stories for the delivery team.
Office Location Boston - USA (primary) or Toronto - Canada (alternative)
Work Arrangement Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days from Home; Remote working option is not available
Position Responsibilities
Play a key role in the production delivery of Gen AI Underwriting features working closely with our teams of data engineers, business leads and technology specialists on overall solution execution for our stakeholders to drive growth and efficiency
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather and prioritize requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Manage dependencies, eliminate obstacles, and communicate product vision, roadmap, and progress to stakeholders
Manage the technology product backlog, define user stories, and set sprint goals.
Deliver on solutions that incorporate multiple technologies
Act as the primary liaison between stakeholders and the development team, ensuring clear communication and understanding of product vision and goals.
Monitor and report on product performance, making data‑driven decisions to enhance the customer experience.
Stay ahead of new technologies (GenAI, Power Platform, cloud, etc).
Support technical release plans and activities
Develop and maintain technical documentation for business and technical processes.
Lead the development and execution of a long‑term platform strategy aligned with technology architectural and business goals.
Bring an innovative mindset to improving and elevating technology solutions and enablers
Monitors and generates reports on product KPIs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in a technical product owner, platform owner, engineer, project management or similar role.
Strong understanding of life insurance industry workflows and processes, particularly relevant to the products being used.
Understanding of Generative AI use cases in Insurance operations.
Ability to manage and deliver on parallel feature workstreams.
Ability to adhere effectively to initiative timelines, managing and mitigating scheduling risk.
Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to translate business needs into effective solutions.
Experience with program and agile delivery methodologies.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem‑solving.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with project tracking software (e.g. Jira).
Experience with Azure Services, AKS on Azure.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Experience with DevOps principles and tools.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Experience with User Interface Functionality and Development.
Experience with Agile methodologies.

Salary and Benefits Salary range: $87,990.00 USD – $163,410.00 USD. Bonus and incentive compensation tied to performance.
Benefits include health, dental, mental health, vision, short‑ and long‑term disability, life and AD&D insurance coverage, adoption/surrogacy and wellness benefits, employee/family assistance plans. Eligible employees can participate in retirement savings plans, pension/401(k) plans and a global share ownership plan with employer matching. Paid time off program in the U.S. includes up to 11 paid holidays, 3 personal days, 150 hours of vacation, 40 hours of sick time and statutory leaves.
