Responsibilities
Accountable for day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, ensuring efficient workflow and a positive patient experience; serves as a full‑time certified pharmacy technician.
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions; supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers under pharmacist supervision in accordance with company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics.
Select, schedule and develop pharmacy technician personnel; lead training, coaching and performance management; make decisions regarding discipline and termination.
Customer Experience
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve complaints and answer non‑clinical questions to ensure a positive experience.
Build strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to enhance healthcare offerings.
Operations
Assist pharmacist in patient care delivery—registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification (where allowed by law).
Complete patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision (where allowed by law).
Assist with healthcare service offerings including administering vaccines, health screenings and other allowed services.
Delegate, direct and assign non‑clinical work within company policies, state and federal regulations; hold others accountable for efficient workflow.
Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies.
Manage core pharmacy workflow, drive excellence, coordinate daily schedules, recommend hour allocations, and ensure a clean, organized environment.
Exercise independent judgment for compliance and execution of all business administrative activities and inventory management tasks that do not require pharmacist licensure; manage annual inventory preparation.
Complete non‑clinical patient calls.
Drive new technology and process roll‑outs, champion change and engage the team in action planning.
Ensure proper operation and maintenance of pharmacy equipment; collaborate on record‑keeping and security safeguards.
Adhere to Walgreens policy on Good Faith Dispensing during prescription‑dispensing activities and communicate errors to the pharmacist.
Maintain and apply knowledge of company asset‑protection techniques; support diversion monitoring and report concerns.
Communicate prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies and the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve customer issues and prevent payment rejections; follow‑up with insurers and providers and participate in third‑party audits.
Assist Store and Pharmacy Managers in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality and customer service.
Manage Community Outreach Portal, coordinate off‑site immunization clinics and community events, and build relationships with retail partners.
People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, recommending discipline or termination; enforce constructive discipline policy; ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
Hold technicians accountable for attendance, timeliness and performance; engage team members and action plan.
Hire, onboard, train and schedule technicians; monitor training completion and enforce scheduling policies.
Identify operational knowledge gaps among team members and support training via hands‑on or learning modules.
Assist the Pharmacy Manager in ensuring all pharmacy and team member certifications are active and in compliance with regulations.
Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention and training as required by company policy and law.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state required certification/registration.
Enhance and apply current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare.
Obtain necessary certifications, education credits and training such as LTMP e‑modules as required by the company.
Seek professional development through self‑monitoring, constructive feedback and mentorship by the Healthcare Supervisor.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team, relaying messages from the support center or key emails as required.
Participate in key store/pharmacy meetings, including 5‑minute meetings and weekly check‑ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience.
Previous work experience with Walgreens with an exceeding expectation on the last performance evaluation.
