State of Alaska
The recruitment is exempt from the hiring freeze (Administrative Order 358).
THIS RECRUITMENT IS OPEN TO ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY. APPLICANTS MUST MEET ALASKA RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Support the Overdose Response Strategy (ORS), a national initiative funded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the CDC, designed to enhance public health–public safety collaboration and reduce drug overdose deaths through improved information sharing and evidence‑based intervention.
Work in partnership with a Public Health Analyst (PHA) to meld diverse experiences and provide a more comprehensive approach to solving complex matters related to drug overdose prevention.
Facilitate the dissemination of drug‑related intelligence throughout the State of Alaska, coordinate with other ORS DIOs nationwide, and serve as a clearinghouse for information requests from public and private entities.
Establish and maintain points of contact with key federal, state, local, and tribal representatives to promote awareness, increase collaboration, coordinate meetings and outreach, and manage use of central databases to ensure timely exchange of information.
Conduct interviews and liaise with public health, law enforcement, and private sector representatives to stay abreast of fluctuating drug threats and trends, track certain arrests, prepare written reports, and deliver presentations.
The DIO role is a temporary exempt position, with continued employment evaluated annually and contingent upon government grant funding and the discretion of Alaska HIDTA’s Executive Director.
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program seeks to reduce the production, smuggling, distribution, and use of illegal drugs adversely affecting the United States. In furtherance of this, Alaska HIDTA promotes collaboration by and between federal, state, local, and tribal agencies to identify and address established priorities. The approach to reducing the drug threat—and its harmful effects—is diverse and achieved, in part, through operational law enforcement efforts, intelligence gathering and sharing, prevention and treatment programs, and education and training initiatives.
THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM Working with Alaska HIDTA means being part of a mission‑driven team that directly contributes to the health and safety of communities across the state.
