Who we’re looking for ViaBot is looking for a passionate Robotics Deployment Engineer to take charge of the technical side of nationwide deployments of the ViaBot One robot platform. On one hand, you’ll manage project-level timelines for software provisioning and mapping setup, and communicate these to our heads of Business and Operations. On the other, you’ll work closely with our onboard compute platform, multilayered perception stack, and the processes involved in collecting data for and building 3D maps. This role is best suited for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, technical prowess across software and electronics, and a strong sense of ownership over their work.
Responsibilities
Collect data from customer properties to create 2D and 3D maps, which will be deployed to the robot and enable autonomous operation
Manage the imaging of our x86-based compute platforms running Linux
Manage software configurations for our various sensors and mechatronics
Forecast and communicate mapping timelines to Operations and Business teams
Evaluate autonomy performance on sites, debugging issues and corner cases
Assist Operations with resolving technical issues, and relaying those findings to dev teams
Role requirements
Bachelor’s degree in robotics, computer science, IT, or a related field
3+ years of professional work experience in robotics
Must have work authorization in the United States
Must have a driver’s license, and be willing to drive 25%-50% of the time for work
Physical requirements
Must be able to lift 50lbs
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (up to 50% of the time)
Must be able to work safely in outdoor conditions and around moving vehicles
Required knowledge
ROS1 and Rviz
C++
Python
CloudCompare, or similar pointcloud editing programs
GIMP, or other image editing software
Inkscape, or other vector graphics editing software
Linux and command line tools (shell scripting, driver installation)
Sensor calibration and basic debugging (cameras, GPS, lidar)
PC assembly (consumer-grade hardware)
Basic electromechanical troubleshooting (visual inspection, probing voltage, methodical testing)
Preferred experience (huge plus!)
Robotics software development
Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm development
Internet of Things (IoT) software development
Software configuration deployment at scale
Asset tracking and management software
