Regional Manager, Companion Animal (Gulf Coast)
Merck – The Companion Animal Regional Sales Manager (Gulf Coast) leads a sales team of up to 10 Territory and Senior Territory Representatives to meet regional sales goals.
Job Description Lead the Gulf Coast regional sales team across Alabama and northern/central Mississippi to achieve business objectives, develop the product portfolio, and foster collaborative relationships with veterinarians and distributor management.
Essential Accountabilities
Prepares and implements a comprehensive region business plan, ensuring consistent product program implementation and sales goal attainment.
Directly impacts business unit performance through strong leadership and management skills.
Develops and manages talent for the attraction, retention, and motivation of the regional sales team.
Manages, coaches, and provides direction to the sales team, building cohesive teams and conducting formal and informal performance reviews.
Recognizes employee success, communicates constructive feedback, and resolves conflict.
Ensures consistent messaging and leadership within the region.
Originates ideas and suggests new areas for development, extending beyond the regional level.
Works cross‑functionally with Professional Services Veterinarians.
Collaborates with key distributor management personnel to promote the product portfolio.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 8 years of relevant work experience in veterinary, healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device fields.
Minimum two (2) years of leadership experience with demonstrated accomplishments.
Required Skills / Abilities
Technical, product, and market knowledge.
Market share mindset focusing on potential versus outcomes.
Territory and business management expertise.
Leadership and team‑building skills.
Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Valid driver’s license.
Availability for extensive overnight travel (≈50 %).
Residence within the Sales Region.
Preferred Skills / Abilities
Experience in sales or the animal health industry.
Knowledge of animal health biological and pharmaceutical products.
Experience working with distribution channels.
Multilingual fluency, especially Spanish.
Additional Details Location: Gulf Coast – Alabama and Northern/Central Mississippi; manager must reside in the region.
Salary range: $139,600.00 – $219,700.00. Eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentives, if applicable. Hybrid work model: three on‑site days per week, one remote day.
