Description Under general supervision, performs technical work related to the storage of samples; clean‑up and maintenance of the laboratory, supplies and evidence. Assists in the gross room when needed to access, cut frozen sections, and perform grossing of surgical specimens. Performs technical tasks and procedures, including preventive maintenance as appropriate in each section assigned. Performs all duties in a manner consistent with current laboratory safety standards. Assists in preparing and maintaining compliance as established by regulatory agencies such as CAP, TJC, OSHA and other federal and state agencies. Additional duties include inventory and ordering of supplies, clerical tasks, telephone communication with laboratory customers.
Responsibilities
Perform technical work related to sample storage, cleanup, and laboratory maintenance.
Assist in the gross room: accession, cutting frozen sections, and grossing surgical specimens.
Execute preventive maintenance tasks as required in assigned sections.
Maintain compliance with CAP, TJC, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
Manage inventory, order supplies, and handle clerical duties and customer communications.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science plus two years of experience in related work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Laboratory training in an ABHES, CAHEA, or other HHS‑approved accredited laboratory, or at least three months of documented high‑complexity testing training.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of grossing experience.
Special Conditions
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $82,434 – $102,521 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $39.48 – $49.10. Compensation factors include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
Compliance and Certifications Employees must comply with the University of California vaccination program policy and may be subject to additional public health directives. Life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment; online‑only certification is not acceptable.
