The Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) laboratory at Stanford University is the institute’s largest research‑focused ambulatory care and laboratory services group, offering services across the research community including adult and pediatric bedside, phlebotomy, dietary, and laboratory services. We are seeking two 2‑year fixed‑term Life Science Research Professional 1s to support the MOSAAIC study, which investigates disease patterns in Asian American groups to develop precision medicine treatment and prevention strategies. The role involves purification and characterization of human biospecimen derivatives from biofluids and tissue/tumors to better understand protein expression and other parameters in human samples from clinical research studies.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field and demonstrate the ability to independently conduct, analyze, and present experiments under the guidance of faculty investigators. The position will be conducted under supervision of the CTRU Lab Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects based on scientific theory.

Independently conduct experiments, maintaining detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

Apply life science discipline theories and methods to interpret and analyze experiment results, offering suggestions for procedural modifications in collaboration with senior researchers.

Review scientific literature regularly to remain current and apply learnings to research.

Contribute to publication of findings and participate in the preparation of written documents including procedures, presentations, and proposals.

Assist with general lab maintenance, stock management, chemical inventory, and safety records.

Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

Other duties may be assigned as required.

Desired Qualifications

Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.

Highly motivated, independent, and a team player.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Familiarity with databases, reporting, and performance indicators.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite or ability to learn new software.

Organizational skills to troubleshoot unplanned situations while meeting established deadlines.

Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)

General understanding of scientific principles and demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills when needed.

Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to problem‑solving.

Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.

Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

Excellent organizational and detailed work skills.

Physical Requirements

Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly and forcefully, perform desk‑based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.

Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.

Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop, mix or operate hand and foot controls.

Must have correctable vision to perform duties.

Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.

Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, odorous environment.

Position may require repetitive motion.

Working Conditions

May require work with hazardous materials or bloodborne pathogens.

May require extended or unusual work hours, including weekend work.

Required to work in close proximity to bloodborne pathogens following universal precautions and EHS recommendations.

Required to use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, shoes, protective clothing, gloves, and possibly a respirator.

Position is based in Stanford’s Research Park, Stanford main campus, Redwood City campus, or Redwood City clinic.

The expected pay range for this position is $32.58 to $38.48 per hour.
