What To Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to source and industrialize suppliers for Chassis control systems, with a strong focus on PCBA-based electronic control assemblies used in steering and braking applications. The Supplier Industrialization Engineer will work closely with Tesla Hardware, Firmware, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to audit, develop, and streamline PCBA manufacturing, assembly, and test processes at supplier plants. This role will support safety‑critical chassis products including Steering and Braking systems, while also interfacing with electromechanical assemblies such as motors and powerpacks. The job involves frequent interaction with contract manufacturers and Tier‑1/Tier‑2 suppliers, international travel, and on‑the‑spot technical decision‑making.

The goal: deliver on‑time, high‑quality electronic control components into Tesla’s production processes to enable rapid development cycles and reliable product launches.

What You’ll Do

Perform Design for Manufacturing (DfM) on chassis‑control PCBAs using DFM tools (e.g., Valor, Vayo) and provide clear design guidance to Tesla engineering teams

Act as the PCBA manufacturing expert within the Chassis Controls SIE team, covering SMT, reflow, conformal coating, underfill, washing, press‑fit, pin insertion, and depanelization

Drive Contract Manufacturers (CMs) on quality, responsiveness, cost, and process efficiency

Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities at suppliers, acting as critical‑to‑quality (CTQ) owner for PCBA manufacturing and test readiness

Define and review PCBA line layout, capacity, and cycle time, driving process flow improvements to meet Tesla volume and scalability requirements

Participate in supplier quotations by providing technical input on PCBA process capability, automation level, test coverage, and line setup

Own supplier quality performance, including field and factory issues, by driving Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and validating sustainable corrective actions

Audit suppliers onsite and lead process improvements to meet Tesla’s manufacturing, quality, and traceability requirements

Collaborate with other Chassis Controls SIEs supporting motors, powerpacks, and mechanical assemblies to ensure end‑to‑end system readiness

What You’ll Bring

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

5+ years of experience in PCBA manufacturing, supplier quality, or manufacturing engineering

Strong hands‑on knowledge of SMT and PCBA processes, including Reflow, THT, conformal coating, underfill, washing, Press‑fit and pin insertion, ICT, functional test, and EOL validation

Solid experience launching NPIs, managing suppliers through APQP / PPAP, and driving ramp to production

Proficiency with problem‑solving tools such as RCCA, Fishbone, process mapping, and 5S

Ability to balance technical depth and supplier leadership, influencing suppliers at both engineering and management levels

Strong project management and communication skills

Willingness to travel internationally (30–40%, sometimes on short notice)
