What To Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to source and industrialize suppliers for Chassis control systems, with a strong focus on PCBA-based electronic control assemblies used in steering and braking applications. The Supplier Industrialization Engineer will work closely with Tesla Hardware, Firmware, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to audit, develop, and streamline PCBA manufacturing, assembly, and test processes at supplier plants. This role will support safety‑critical chassis products including Steering and Braking systems, while also interfacing with electromechanical assemblies such as motors and powerpacks. The job involves frequent interaction with contract manufacturers and Tier‑1/Tier‑2 suppliers, international travel, and on‑the‑spot technical decision‑making.
The goal: deliver on‑time, high‑quality electronic control components into Tesla’s production processes to enable rapid development cycles and reliable product launches.
What You’ll Do
Perform Design for Manufacturing (DfM) on chassis‑control PCBAs using DFM tools (e.g., Valor, Vayo) and provide clear design guidance to Tesla engineering teams
Act as the PCBA manufacturing expert within the Chassis Controls SIE team, covering SMT, reflow, conformal coating, underfill, washing, press‑fit, pin insertion, and depanelization
Drive Contract Manufacturers (CMs) on quality, responsiveness, cost, and process efficiency
Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities at suppliers, acting as critical‑to‑quality (CTQ) owner for PCBA manufacturing and test readiness
Define and review PCBA line layout, capacity, and cycle time, driving process flow improvements to meet Tesla volume and scalability requirements
Participate in supplier quotations by providing technical input on PCBA process capability, automation level, test coverage, and line setup
Own supplier quality performance, including field and factory issues, by driving Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and validating sustainable corrective actions
Audit suppliers onsite and lead process improvements to meet Tesla’s manufacturing, quality, and traceability requirements
Collaborate with other Chassis Controls SIEs supporting motors, powerpacks, and mechanical assemblies to ensure end‑to‑end system readiness
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in PCBA manufacturing, supplier quality, or manufacturing engineering
Strong hands‑on knowledge of SMT and PCBA processes, including Reflow, THT, conformal coating, underfill, washing, Press‑fit and pin insertion, ICT, functional test, and EOL validation
Solid experience launching NPIs, managing suppliers through APQP / PPAP, and driving ramp to production
Proficiency with problem‑solving tools such as RCCA, Fishbone, process mapping, and 5S
Ability to balance technical depth and supplier leadership, influencing suppliers at both engineering and management levels
Strong project management and communication skills
Willingness to travel internationally (30–40%, sometimes on short notice)
Excellent spoken and written English

Expected Compensation $85,760 - $197,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
