Base pay range $140,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr

Job Overview At AECOM, we deliver infrastructure solutions worldwide. We are looking for an experienced architect to lead the design, development, and delivery of secure facilities for Federal clients, in compliance with ICD‑705 and other applicable standards. The role requires expertise in secure spaces such as SCIFs, SAPFs, secure communications centers, and other classified environments.

Location Primary office: Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; San Francisco, CA; San Diego, CA; Sacramento, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Seattle, WA; Columbus, OH; Cleveland, OH. Other AECOM office locations may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the architectural design of secure spaces, ensuring compliance with ICD‑705, DoD standards, and client requirements.

Collaborate with Accrediting Official (AO) and support the development of Construction Surveillance Plans (CSP).

Prepare detailed design documentation – floor plans, elevations, specifications – that satisfy security, operational, and aesthetic goals.

Coordinate acoustical and RF shielding requirements in compliance with UFC 4‑010‑05 and ICD 705.

Integrate physical security systems—access control, intrusion detection, acoustic protection—into facility designs.

Conduct design reviews and oversee quality assurance to ensure adherence to Federal standards.

Lead client engagement activities, including workshops, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, and marketing communications.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of ICD‑705, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and other relevant Federal standards.

Coordinate security risk assessments, accreditation, and facility certification processes.

Support business development through proposals, presentations, and industry event participation.

Mentor junior architects and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Architecture from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience.

Professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) is required.

U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract/security requirements.

Preferred

Master’s degree in Architecture.

12 years of architectural experience, with at least 5 years focused on designing secure facilities for Federal clients.

ICD‑705 Training Certificate within the last five years.

Experience with Federal agencies (DoD, IC, etc.).

Proven track record leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Certification in security‑related disciplines (e.g., Certified SCIF Designer, PSP).

Active or recent security clearance (Secret, TS, TS/SCI).

Experience with sustainability and energy efficiency in secure facility design.

Knowledge of emerging technologies in secure environments.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools.

Strong understanding of physical security systems and countermeasures.

Familiarity with Federal procurement (FAR/DFARS) and proposal support.

Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

Leadership and problem‑solving abilities.
