Summary The Software Engineer IV works within the Application Development & Support team to provide complex software programming for new software, production support, maintenance for existing software, and ad‑hoc support of key departmental initiatives that drive business functions. This role receives general instructions on new projects and works autonomously to complete deliverables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop software at all layers by programming, designing, and testing code to meet requirements.

Gain a thorough understanding of functional requirements for new software requests.

Work with Business Systems Analysts to understand and clarify software requirements and translate into working software.

Practice good software engineering techniques and standards to reduce coding errors and ensure robustness and efficiency of work products.

Partner with software teams in the development of software engineering processes.

Identify and resolve technical or product problems.

Participate in software project meetings and provide status reports.

Translate technical designs into working software.

Maintain existing applications by enhancing software and troubleshooting issues.

Collaborate with team members and partners as needed to ensure successful completion of assigned software development tasks.

Participate in code reviews and incorporate recommendations.

Apply Object Oriented Design principles and design patterns in creating system level solution designs.

Create and maintain software design specifications document.

Assume full responsibility for assigned tasks and end‑to‑end accountability for end‑product delivery.

Make recommendations to IT management for the adoption of new technology, industry best practices, and process streamlining.

Communicate and present designs in group settings to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Partner with team members and technical project lead to ensure component design fits in with the overall solution.

Adopt new techniques and technologies.

Initiate attendance at job‑related training to keep skills current and maintain current understanding of industry best practices.

Assist with mentoring and training of less experienced IT staff members.

Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities.

Client Responsibilities Internal and external client‑facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening, verbal, written). Requires managing difficult or emotional client situations, responding promptly to client needs, soliciting client feedback, responding to service requests, and meeting client commitments.

Qualifications Education and Experience BS/BA and 8+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 4 years of SME in respective areas.

Computer Skills

PROFESSIONAL proficiency in programming languages such as JAVA, SQL, and PL/SQL.

Experience with ORACLE RDBMS.

UI front‑end development tools and frameworks like Angular, React JS.

UNIX and/or Windows environments.

Scripting such as Shell, Perl.

Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD).

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

Distributed Software Architecture.

Web Application Architecture.

Tools such as JPA with Hibernate, Spring, XML.

Agile and Waterfall methodologies; requirements gathering and creating flow diagrams.

Other Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on project teams and/or matrix‑managed teams.

Ability to appropriately schedule and prioritize multiple projects to ensure timely and effective delivery of IT solutions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on translating technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Results‑oriented and ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects with changing priorities and deadlines.

Familiarity with PBM business model and pharmaceutical practices helpful.

Work Environment Typical business office environment with computer equipment; moderate noise level.

Work Location Must work on‑site at the San Diego headquarters; remote work is not an option.

Working Hours Exempt level; flexible beyond traditional hours, including nights, weekends, or holidays as required. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Travel No travel required; local conferences or meetings may be attended.
