The Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, one of the oldest and largest chambers in the state, serves as the leading advocate for enhancing the regional economy and quality of life. The Chamber unites individuals and organizations to address critical issues like workforce development, public safety, transportation, and housing. By providing a unified voice, the organization represents the region's priorities to decision‑makers and fosters initiatives that enhance economic competitiveness and community well‑being.

Role Description The Chamber is seeking a full‑time Director of Membership. This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Minneapolis, MN. The Director of Membership will be responsible for leading membership development efforts, building relationships with current and prospective members, and enhancing member engagement. Core responsibilities include implementing membership strategies, overseeing membership sales, managing budgets related to membership activities, and ensuring exceptional customer service. This role requires strategic planning and collaboration with internal teams to support growth and retention. This position reports directly to the Chamber President & CEO.

Qualifications

Proven expertise in Membership Development and Sales to grow and maintain a robust membership programming

Strong Communication and Customer Service skills to effectively engage with members, stakeholders, and community partners

Experience with Budgeting and financial management for organizational initiatives or membership programs

Leadership and strategic thinking abilities to design and execute successful membership strategies

Previous experience in a membership‑based organization, non‑profit, or similar is highly valued

Proficiency with CRM or membership management tools is a plus

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is preferred

Position Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of the sales process, including research and identification of prospects, initial outreach, subsequent contacts, pipeline forecast, and membership acquisition/retention

Achieve budgeted membership and sponsorship revenue goals

Be a champion for the organization’s strategic goals, programs and objectives

Attend chamber meetings, events and programs as required

Assist with retention and renewal duties as requested

Help new Chamber members become engaged through programs, benefits, and valuable sponsorships

Assist with the development and maintenance of effective sales materials/approaches

Represent the Chamber at internal and external meetings

Other duties as assigned by the President & CEO

Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications

An infectious, positive attitude, combined with an ability to learn and teach in equal measure

Has proven record of success selling memberships or comparable development experience

Ability to generate leads and secure appointments

Skilled in cold‑calling and selling to major accounts

Ability to deliver exceptional customer service to members, prospective members, and partners

Strong organization, time management and multi‑tasking skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel and Word

Able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally

Willing to offer new ideas, concepts, and propose solutions

Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information

Professional presence and strong interpersonal skills

Team player that works well in a flexible upbeat environment

Must have a dependable vehicle with proof of license and insurance

Experience using ChamberMaster or equivalent membership database/CRM system

Microsoft Office Suite

QuickBooks/QBO or similar accounting software

Ability to utilize AI‑augmented marketing technology

Compensation Annual salary of $75,000 with negotiable commission, plus benefits.
