Sr. Regional Environmental Engineer, AWS Environmental Team
Join a diverse, dynamic and enthusiastic team of environmental compliance professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The work of our Regional Environmental Engineers is critical to enabling AWS's growth in the US and around the world.
You will partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site‑specific development strategies enabling the construction and operation of AWS data centers and infrastructure. You will lead environmental due diligence for site selection and acquisition, develop and execute regional and site‑specific environmental permitting strategies, manage environmental compliance during design and construction, and prepare for data center operations. This role requires regular engagement throughout the development lifecycle with multiple AWS stakeholders including Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Water, Design, Public Policy, Construction, and Operational teams, as well as external stakeholders including regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.
A successful candidate in this role will have a proven track record of delivering multiple, high‑priority projects with tight timelines that require strong communication with partner teams, outside consultants and counsel, and regulatory agencies. The candidate must have a strong understanding of multimedia United States environmental permitting, remediation, and compliance requirements associated with large‑scale infrastructure including experience with Clean Water Act (CWA) 404 and NPDES permitting. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Environmental team is looking for an experienced environmental professional to manage environmental requirements during datacenter and infrastructure development in the Americas.
Key job responsibilities
Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies and site‑specific project delivery.
Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, and natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations.
Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on‑time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites.
Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
Coordinate with partner teams including Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, and others to optimize site designs to consider natural resource or operational constraints.
Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above in engineering or equivalent.
5+ years of project management experience.
10+ years of experience delivering multimedia environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development.
7+ years of experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs and support for investigative and remedial activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers or critical infrastructure or large‑scale mechanical and electrical plants.
Experience working on multi‑team, cross‑disciplinary projects.
Experience in multiple states within the US (preferably in OH, MO, and IN).
Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions.
Experience with Smartsheets or other project management software.
Up to 25% travel.

Compensation and Benefits The base pay for this position ranges from $125,400 per year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,300 per year in our highest geographic market. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be included as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
