Deputy Attorney General I-V / Fraud and Consumer Protection Division – Consumer Protection Unit

Introduction Delaware's Attorney General is the State’s chief law enforcement officer responsible for combating crime, upholding civil rights, safeguarding families, fighting fraud, and protecting consumers throughout the First State. The Attorney General’s office is supported by lawyers and staff in multiple divisions, including the Fraud and Consumer Protection Division, which enforces more than 40 state and federal laws. The Consumer Protection Unit prosecutes civil and administrative cases, conducts cross‑state investigations, and collaborates with other state attorneys general offices.
Position Summary The Delaware Department of Justice seeks a highly motivated Deputy Attorney General to join the Consumer Protection Unit.
The role is based in the Brandywine Building and involves managing all phases of litigation and enforcement actions related to consumer fraud and deceptive trade practices.
Salary
Salary Grade 12 — $79,508 (min) – $87,458 (max)
Salary Grade 14 — $92,259 (min) – $96,760 (max)
Salary Grade 16 — $101,898 (min) – $106,468 (max)
Salary Grade 18 — $112,031 (min) – $119,317 (max)
Salary Grade 20 — $125,885 (min) – $135,154 (max)
Essential Functions The Deputy Attorney General will:
Manage all phases of litigation and enforcement actions, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, engaging in settlement negotiations, and advocating before juries, judges, or administrative hearing officers.
Work closely with investigative teams and other state or governmental agencies to address complex consumer protection issues.
Provide consumer education to the public and collaborate with agencies on policy and outreach initiatives.
May be eligible for up to three days of telework per week.
Job Requirements The ideal candidate will:
Have a record of solid academic achievement and relevant work experience.
Exhibit strong writing and analytical skills.
Be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage complex litigation.
Possess Delaware Bar admission, or be willing to sit for the Delaware Bar exam.
Show a strong commitment to public service and consumer protection.
Be willing to commit to the required background checks and direct deposit of payroll.
