Director of Finance & Accounting
Syracuse, NY | On-site with hybrid flexibility available
Compensation: $110,000–$130,000 base, based on experience
We are partnering with a well‑established, project‑driven professional services organization in the Syracuse area to recruit a Director of Finance & Accounting. This is the most senior finance and accounting role in the organization and will play a critical role in strengthening financial operations, improving project profitability visibility, and supporting leadership with accurate, timely financial insight.
This position is ideal for a hands‑on finance leader who enjoys owning the full accounting function while also partnering closely with operations and executive leadership to drive informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all accounting and financial operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and month‑end close
Ensure GAAP compliance and oversee monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial reporting
Coordinate audits, reviews, and tax filings with external CPA and advisory partners
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
Monitor budget‑to‑actual performance and provide clear, actionable variance analysis
Oversee project accounting, billing, revenue recognition, and profitability reporting
Partner with operations to improve labor cost allocation, time tracking, and project margins
Maintain, optimize, and enhance accounting systems, controls, and financial processes
(NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar project‑based systems)
Supervise, mentor, and develop a small accounting team

Accurate, timely financial reporting leadership can rely on
Improved visibility into project profitability and cost drivers
Strong internal controls and streamlined accounting processes
A collaborative finance function that supports operational decision‑making
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
Strong project‑based accounting experience required
Experience with project accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
Confident communicator able to partner effectively with executives and operations
