Quantum Experimentalist Postdoctoral Fellow – 105666 Join our team as a postdoctoral fellow in the Quantum Information Science and Technology Group (QuIST) at Berkeley Lab. The position focuses on the design, calibration, and operation of mid‑scale digital superconducting quantum processors for cutting‑edge quantum computing demonstrations.

You Will

Design and test novel superconducting device components compatible with extensible quantum processors.

Perform analytical and numerical modelling of microwave quantum circuits and signals.

Design and conduct state‑of‑the‑art experiments using superconducting quantum processors for quantum information science.

Develop scalable calibration methodologies for quantum operations.

Troubleshoot noise processes on quantum hardware and design and implement mitigation strategies.

Validate, analyze, and interpret experimental data.

Develop firmware and programming tools to interface with FPGA‑based electronics.

Perform quantum verification and validation.

Mentor and collaborate with student researchers.

We Are Looking For

Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience independently planning and completing research projects.

Relevant publication record and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of quantum information science related to superconducting quantum processors.

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Experience guiding technical support staff or students.

Proficiency with Python‑based programming tools.

Desired Skills / Knowledge

Experience preparing periodic updates (written and oral) for internal and external reviews.

Experience operating and maintaining a dilution refrigerator.

Additional Information

Appointment type: Full‑time, 3‑year postdoctoral fellowship with the possibility of renewal.

Salary range: $6,924 to $8,026 per month.

Background check required; convictions will be evaluated for relevance to duties.

Work modality: On‑site, hybrid; primary location at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Must be U.S. resident.

Union represented: Yes, as per collective bargaining agreement.
