The Senior Technology Manager at CarMax helps bring disruptive innovation to life. They promote a solution‑driven mindset for their teams, partner with stakeholders to provide innovative solutions that deliver CarMax's strategic mission and plans, grow people, create teams that solve problems for our Associates and customers, and communicate priorities to stakeholders. What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities
Lead and empower a team of Engineers with varying levels of experience in a product organization while adapting to a dynamic and changing environment in our Logistics Technology space. Ensure the right skills are used to solve the right problems while supporting the team with coaching, skills development, and career growth. Prioritize objectives and provide a comprehensive approach to solution recommendations that includes ROI, time to market, scalability, and alternative recommendations. Think strategically – identify goals for the team while removing impediments. Communicate effectively to multiple levels, ensuring alignment and support for team objectives with stakeholders and Senior Leadership. Lead the team through business and effectively collaborate with and manage both associates and external consultants. Remain curious of innovative technology while broadening knowledge of CarMax functional areas. Drive associate engagement across multiple teams and lead through other leaders where necessary. The Logistics Senior Technology Manager’s primary responsibility is to partner and engage with our business partners to understand/anticipate needs and provide technology solutions and services that help deliver CarMax’s strategic vision. The manager builds, develops, and maintains high functioning teams of talented engineers and analysts enabling CarMax's Logistics technology journey, guiding teams, setting performance standards, and motivating associates to perform quality work. Qualifications And Requirements
Persuasive and influential communicator – able to explain complex or intangible concepts to stakeholders at all levels. Experience with Supply Chain Technology and Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) preferred. Experience leveraging AI tools to boost productivity as well as support business performance. Knowledge of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and how to set short‑term and long‑term goals. Provide people leadership for multiple, diverse cross‑functional teams and individuals; coaching and guiding teams to enable future success. Enable a flexible yet productive work environment that supports a distributed workforce: remote and hybrid. Partner with product teams to outline roadmaps, identify dependencies, and share updates on progress. Participate in software architectural discussions, influencing decisions, and collaborating with peers to maintain consistency across the organization. Identify and champion people and process improvement strategies for the team(s). Foster collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams, and find opportunities to expose engineers to career interests. Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project plans, deployment planning and operations to drive excellence and lead organization towards its goals. Education And Experience
BS/BA degree required, preferably in a technology‑related field (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.). Proven experience with Supply Chain Technology, Oracle Transportation Management (OTM), and integrations in these platforms strongly preferred. 7+ years of experience in Technology with 5+ years of software/systems engineering leadership experience. 5+ years’ experience managing direct reports. Work Location and Arrangement
This role will be based out of the Richmond, Virginia or Dallas, Texas location and will have a hybrid work arrangement. Associates based in Richmond work onsite 5 days per week. Associates based in Plano work onsite 2 days per week. Work Authorization
