Position Overview Responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of a Motorola P25 radio communications network, VPLS microwave network, subscriber radio devices, dispatch consoles, and fire station alerting equipment. Provides rotating on‑call service, programs voice and data radio communications equipment, and works with vendors on maintenance and repair of all radio users. Performs preventive maintenance at all radio tower sites, dispatch centers, and FAS stations.
Essential Duties
Install, operate, maintain, and repair Motorola P25 radio communications network, VPLS microwave network, and dispatch consoles.
Program voice and data radio communications equipment and coordinate with vendors for maintenance and repair.
Maintain Fire Alerting System (FSA) and perform preventive maintenance at radio tower sites, dispatch centers, and FAS stations.
Provide rotating on‑call service and assist in the development, installation, maintenance, and administration of the City’s Project 25 (P25) digital multisite, multi‑agency radio and IP based microwave system.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS), or closely related field.
Experience: At least 3 years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware.
License: Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with Houston City policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of a Motorola P25 trunked radio system.
Knowledge of FCC rules & regulations and radio programming.
Microsoft Server/VSphere certifications.
Proficiency at radio installations and repair of antennas and antenna lines.
Certified Electronics Technician (C.E.T.) or General Communications Technician certifications.
Salary Pay Grade: 22 | Salary range: $105,000.00 – $110,000.00
