WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL

Based out of Forest Park, GA (Metro Atlanta). Candidates outside the area may be considered if willing to telework and travel as needed.

Hybrid schedule: four days in office, one day telecommute.

Relocation assistance may be provided for candidates not within a reasonable commute.

Requires approximately 25% travel and ability to work remotely with internet access.

JOB SUMMARIES For Each Position Are As Follows Line Design Engineer/Designer (Production) The successful Transmission Line Designer/Engineer (Production) candidate will support estimate preparation, develop design options, and prepare construction specifications. Design packages will be used to construct new and update existing transmission lines, enhancing the Southern Company grid, serving new customers (data centers, manufacturers, battery plants, etc.) and connecting renewable generation plants to the system.

Line Contract Engineer The successful Transmission Line Contract Engineer candidates will provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for Southern Company‑approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and prepare construction packages for outsourced line design jobs.

Line Design Engineer/Designer (Project Support) This line scoping engineer/estimator will apply Southern Company’s engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications in the design and construction of high‑voltage transmission lines (HVTL). Responsibilities include estimate preparation, developing design options, and preparing construction specifications.

Line Standards Engineer3> This Transmission Line Standards Engineer will provide technical leadership for transmission line design, maintenance, and construction, assist with development of standard design criteria and processes, perform construction inspections, serve as a technical resource, and provide guidance for complex projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (All Positions)

Become knowledgeable of transmission line design practices and work processes.

Support development of design standards and criteria for the Southern Company transmission system.

Support project origination, project management, construction and maintenance teams during day‑to‑day operations and emergency restoration of failed equipment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES For Each Position Are As Follows Line Design Engineer/Designer (Production)

Design high voltage transmission lines using PLS‑CADD.

Estimate and order material for transmission projects.

Support Transmission Line Construction.

Line Contract Engineer

Provide guidance, oversight, and technical assistance on design/standards/tools to external engineering firms.

Provide quality assurance reviews on PLS‑CADD line model and construction package; assist in material ordering.

Provide evaluations and feedback on engineering firms’ performance.

Support Transmission Line Construction.

Line Design Engineer/Designer (Project Support)

Scope Transmission Line Projects.

Develop conceptual design options.

Design high voltage transmission lines using PLS‑CADD.

Prepare cost estimate.

Line Standards Engineer

Develop standard designs for assigned products.

Perform construction inspections on an as‑needed basis.

Serve as technical resource to design, operations, and maintenance groups.

Provide technical guidance for complex projects, assess impact, and minimize adverse effects.

Serve on Southern Company and industry committees/task forces (e.g., EPRI, ASCE, IEEE, PD System Performance Line Design Working Group, Southern Company Transmission Line Maintenance Committee).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (All Positions)

BS degree or higher in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical preferred).

Two‑year degree or higher from a technical school or university with 2 years of experience in transmission line design.

Five years of experience as a designer with no degree.

Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

Experience

Previous transmission line design experience is preferred.

Maintenance, construction, or project management experience in the utility industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of transmission line design, construction, and maintenance practices, with specific expertise in line design and construction materials preferred.

Technical aptitude to solve civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering problems related to HVTL design and construction.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply design criteria and government regulations; knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code preferred.

Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software and adapt quickly to HVTL application software; prior experience with PLS‑CADD is a plus.

Interpersonal skills sufficient to build working relationships with peers, internal customers, and the public.

Time‑management skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to complete project documentation and function effectively in a team environment.
