Our founding team previously scaled Duolingo to hundreds of millions of learners worldwide, and now we’re tackling the multi‑trillion dollar higher education market that’s overdue for disruption.
Our mission: To make college/tuition more affordable and accessible, by leveraging our lessons and gamified approach to learning. We are looking to build the next generation of mobile‑first higher education experiences for millions of students globally.
Please note: this position requires 3 days a week on‑site in LA, or 5 days a week on‑site in SLC.
Position Overview We’re searching for a Lead/Staff Mobile Engineer (IC role) to architect and scale our mobile apps from the ground up.
Stack & Focus: React Native, Native iOS (Swift), and/or Android (Kotlin)
Requirements
8+ years of mobile engineering experience
Proven expertise in code architecture for large‑scale mobile apps (8M+ active monthly users)
Advanced experience with React Native
Lead mobile team while remaining heavily involved in our technical code base
Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, ambiguous startup environments
Set technical direction for mobile applications
Higher education application experience a plus
