The Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking experienced Rotary Wing Pilots responsible for operating helicopters in emergency medical evacuations, search and rescue, and law enforcement operations for Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies, as required. Performs related duties as assigned. This is a competitive classification. This recruitment will be used to establish an 18-month eligibility list to fill current and future vacancies over the life of the list.

Responsibilities
Operate rotary wing aircraft in support of public safety missions, including surveillance, patrol, pursuit, search and rescue, medical evacuations, aerial photography, and transport of personnel.
Perform specialized maneuvers such as rappelling, one‑skid landing, external load/short‑haul operations, night and mountain flying.
Evaluate requests for air support.
Schedule flight plans in connection with flight missions.
Inspect, test, and maintain aircraft and all mission‑related equipment.
Clean aircraft, unit quarters, and hangar.
Perform pre‑and post‑flight inspections.
Plan flights, load passengers, baggage, and cargo, and analyze weather conditions.
Maintain logs and records as required, and prepare written reports.
Operate aircraft tug, tractor, and/or ground handling equipment.
Coordinate pilot training programs and maintain training records.
Assist medical personnel at the scene, as required.
Train pilots on various safety and aviation procedures and issues.
Serve as acting supervisor in the absence of the Senior Pilot.

Aircraft systems and operations, aerial navigation and maintenance regarding normal operating procedures, limitations, and emergency procedures.

Aircraft ground handling procedures.
Geography, topography, and climate regarding the State of Arizona.
Maintenance test flight procedures.

The operation of ground vehicles (e.g., motor vehicles, fuel trucks, fuel pumps, aircraft handcarts, etc.).
The use of aircraft flight logs.
The operation of special mission‑related equipment.

Read and interpret aviation and weather maps.
Perform operations under highly stressful or emergency conditions.
Work independently.
Compute basic mathematical and statistical calculations.
Read and interpret written material of moderate difficulty.
Prioritize flight missions.
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. citizen and a high school graduate or have a GED.
Possess a valid FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft‑Helicopter and Instrument Helicopter endorsements.
Hold at least a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
Have a minimum of 2,000 hours flying time as pilot in command in helicopters, of which 1,000 hours must be in turbine engine helicopters.
Minimum of 100 hours must have been within the 24‑month period immediately prior to the application date.
By the starting date, must be a resident of the State of Arizona.
Must have a valid Arizona driver license by no later than effective starting date.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Must have the flexibility to work any hours including weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, call‑outs and overtime. Must be willing to work in varying climates, temperatures and weather conditions.
