Network Security Engineer – Apex Systems
Pay Range: $68-70/hr.
24 mo Contract. Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote). Locations: Irving, TX (preferred); Charlotte, NC; Chandler, AZ.
Overview Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Network Security Engineer for a large financial client. Focus on reviewing security and configuration baselines across all network components to ensure compliance with standards. Responsibilities include asset management, vulnerability and patch management, and coordination with engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Review and validate security baselines for:
Routers
Switches
Firewalls
Proxies
Load balancers
Compare policy requirements vs. actual device configurations.
Identify gaps and update security baselines when needed.
Monitor daily configuration scans and ensure issues are remediated.
Track config drift and ensure devices meet minimum config standards.
Support patch/vulnerability management (tracking releases, ensuring teams test and deploy).
Drive teams to complete required engineering work (not doing the engineering work themselves).
Support broader IT Asset Management initiatives.
Qualifications
Several years as a network engineer or security engineer.
Broad understanding of network infrastructure: routers, switches, firewalls, proxies, load balancers.
Ability to read and understand device configurations.
Experience with security policies, baselines, and compliance.
Several years of project management experience.
Strong data analytics skills (Excel expertise).
Bonus: experience with automation, reporting, or Power BI dashboards.
