Sr. Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney
Zurich is seeking a successful Sr. Workers’ Compensation Defense Trial Attorney to work out of our Pasadena, CA Staff Legal office. Expect reasonable billable hours, excellent benefits including 401(k) match and second 401(k) company contribution, flexible work options, and a great culture.
Job Overview This Attorney will represent the Company in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in Southern California, preparing and defending moderate to high exposure cases, providing legal analysis, filing pleadings, conducting discovery, hearings, and post-trial activities.
Key Responsibilities
Represent the company in all phases of workers' compensation litigation in Southern California.
Prepare and defend moderate to high exposure workers’ compensation cases from a challenging caseload.
Work directly with claims professionals providing legal analysis and advice.
Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents.
Perform legal research.
Prepare for and conduct pre-hearing discovery.
Prepare for and handle final hearings before workers compensation Administrative Law Judges.
Conduct post-trial activities where appropriate.
Work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments under limited direction.
Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor and 7+ years of experience in the Workers’ Compensation Litigation area.
Member in good standing of the California State Bar Association.
Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw.
Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and insurance defense litigation legal environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Effective communication skills.
Effective negotiation skills.
Experience working in a team-based environment.
Collaboration skills.
Effective problem solving and analytical skills.
Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist designation desired.
Location & Work Model Pasadena, CA (Hybrid work model: one day a week in office). Remote Working: Hybrid.
Compensation Salary range: $160,000.00 - $185,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
