TITLE: System Administrator LOCATION: McLean, VA CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Active DoD TS/SCI with CI Polygraph EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time, On-site POSITION SUMMARY Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Systems Administrator to support the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure, enterprise Windows-based infrastructure in classified environments. This role is responsible for administering Windows servers and desktops, Active Directory services, system deployments, and enterprise email platforms while ensuring system performance, availability, and compliance with security standards. The Systems Administrator works closely with IT, security, and engineering teams to troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform routine maintenance, support backup and recovery operations, and maintain accurate technical documentation. By providing responsive user support and maintaining reliable, well-secured systems, this role plays a critical part in enabling mission‑focused programs, including occasional on‑site support at customer locations as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to)

Design, implement, and maintain Windows‑based server and desktop environments in secure, enterprise and classified environments.

Administer and support Active Directory services, including user and group management, Group Policy, DNS, and authentication services.

Deploy, configure, and maintain Windows systems using enterprise deployment and management tools (e.g., SCCM or similar technologies).

Monitor system performance and availability, identify issues, and perform troubleshooting to ensure optimal system operation.

Perform routine system maintenance, including patching, upgrades, configuration changes, and lifecycle management.

Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and system resilience.

Provide technical support to users and engineering teams via phone, email, and in‑person support as required.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and connectivity issues across Windows‑based systems and applications.

Manage and support enterprise email and collaboration systems (e.g., Microsoft Exchange, Outlook).

Develop, maintain, and update technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and system diagrams.

Collaborate with other IT, security, and engineering teams to integrate new systems and technologies.

Ensure systems comply with security policies, configuration baselines, and applicable best practices.

Stay current with Windows operating system updates, security patches, and evolving enterprise IT best practices.

Travel up to 20% to customer sites or data centers to support on‑site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities, as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess

an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI with CI Polygraph security clearance.

Must meet DoD 8570 requirements, including Security+ CE or an equivalent certification.

3+ years of experience as a Windows System Administrator or in a similar role supporting enterprise environments.

In-depth knowledge of Windows Server and Windows Desktop operating systems.

Strong experience administering Active Directory, including user/group management, Group Policy, and DNS.

Experience with Windows deployment and management tools, such as SCCM, MDT, or similar technologies.

Hands‑on experience with backup and disaster recovery procedures.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across systems, applications, and infrastructure.

Experience monitoring system performance, identifying issues, and optimizing system resources.

Experience providing technical support to users and internal teams via phone, email, and in‑person.

Experience managing enterprise email systems, such as Microsoft Exchange and Outlook.

Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs and system administration procedures.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across IT teams.

Ability to stay current with system updates, security patches, and industry best practices.

Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% to support on‑site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Experience supporting systems in secure or classified (DoD) environments.

Familiarity with security hardening and compliance standards (e.g., DISA STIGs, NIST).

Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V).

Basic scripting or automation experience (e.g., PowerShell or similar).

Familiarity with IT service management or ticketing tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
