Position Summary The Optometrist examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and disorders of the vision system, the eye and associated structures, and related systemic conditions. The position serves students directly by appointment and sees referral appointments on an immediate basis at the request of in‑house medical staff.

The Optometrist is PRN, working a minimum of eight hours and a maximum of 19 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 12 months per year. The pay rate is $57.69 – $61.54 per hour. This position is not benefits eligible.

The Optometrist reports directly to the Optometrist – Manager of Optometry Services.

Required Job Qualifications

Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school of Optometry

Current Colorado Optometrist license, or ability to obtain by the start date

Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) Certification

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain by the start date

One year of full‑time experience providing services as an Optometrist

Experience fitting a wide variety of contact lenses

Experience with diagnosis, treatment, and management of medical eye conditions

Preferred Job Qualifications

Four years of experience as an Optometrist in a clinical setting

Experience working in a college health setting and/or experience with a young adult/college‑age population

Experience collaborating with Optometry staff

Experience collaborating with other medical specialties in an integrated clinic setting

Board Certification in Optometry (optional)

Essential Duties Direct Patient Care

Provide routine and acute eye/vision care to students by appointment, including routine refraction and assessment of vision and need for corrective lenses or contact lenses.

Conduct comprehensive eye examinations with thorough and accurate documentation.

Diagnose and manage ocular conditions using best practices, diagnostic techniques, and treatment protocols.

Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses and follow up to ensure proper vision correction.>

Prescribe appropriate medications when indicated.

Educate patients on eye health, visual hygiene, and preventive care.

Avail consultation to medical providers as needed.

Provide coverage during staff vacations, medical leave, or increased patient volume.

Comply with regulatory, university policies, and HIPAA standards.

Appropriate referral to outside specialists.

Additional Duties (5%)

Attend regular staff meetings and educational activities within the Health Network as scheduled.

Other duties as assigned.
