Advanced Practice Provider (APP: NP/PA) Fellowship – Cancer Care – In/Outpatient The Center for Advanced Practice at Stanford Health Care (SHC) invites applications for the 2026–2027 Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship. The fellowship prepares postgraduates for practice in cancer care, providing didactic and practice-based learning across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Position: Full‑time, 1.0 FTE, rotating 12‑hour shifts. Location: Stanford Health Care, 300 Pasteur Dr, Palo Alto, CA.

The Stanford Health Care (SHC) APP Fellowship Program is accredited with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Application Requirements

Two professional letters of recommendation: one academic letter from a faculty member of your graduate program and one professional letter from a clinical supervisor, preceptor, or faculty member.

Unofficial transcript from APP graduate program.

Curriculum vitae or resume.

Essay answers to five prompts:

Statement of interest regarding the APP fellowship in cancer care and why you are choosing the specialty.

Example of a significant patient or family difference.

Example of using evidence (journal articles or local data) to change practice.

Example of managing several tasks and how you handled them.

Responsibilities

Provide routine care and management for patients with acute and chronic complaints in collaboration with the supervising physician.

Consult with a physician when a task, procedure, or diagnostic problem exceeds your level of competence or refer such cases to a collaborating physician.

Complete a performance, process improvement project or research project suitable for publication and presentation.

Attend state, national, and/or local APP society meetings and assigned educational events.

Complete all educational assignments by the due date and participate in periodic evaluation of progress.

Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated upon patient evaluation.

Administer, order, furnish, and prescribe medications according to written standardized procedures.

Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and complete appropriate paperwork.

Assist the supervising physician in the operating room as directed by the supervising physician.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner

Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

California Registered Nurse (RN).

Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally recognized nursing organization (e.g., ANCC).

DEA Number from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

California Nurse Practitioner registration.

Qualifications – Physician Assistant

Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of California.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

DEA Number from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Board certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) at the time of hire and maintenance during employment.
