Finatal is working with a sought‑out venture capital investor looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the investment team. This is a full life‑cycle investment role with fantastic exposure across a top‑tier business.
The successful candidate will have a PhD and prior experience investing in life sciences through venture capital.
Responsibilities
Represent the fund across the biotech and healthcare innovation ecosystem, acting as the first point of contact for VCs, founders and academics.
Underwrite new investment opportunities, in both funds and into startups.
Support the MD in Investment Execution & Portfolio Optimization, constructing and developing a fund that meets both quantitative and qualitative objectives while monitoring and continuously optimizing commitments.
Assess the key risks, weaknesses, and strengths of a transaction and/or commitments.
Perform economic investment return and capital structure analysis.
Perform VC and/or manager diligence and financial strength analysis.
Develop a portfolio strategy, outlining objectives, target assets, construction, and outcomes.
Build and maintain a robust investment and deal pipeline, improving internal deal flow processes.
Interact with and grow the network of managers, targets, universities, LPs, and other stakeholders.
Collaborate internally, providing analysis on sector trends and supporting related business development.
Requirements
Scientific and technological background: Post‑grad life‑science or healthcare qualification relevant to the HCLS mandate (e.g., Biochemistry). Familiarity with AI and ML integration is a plus.
Investment expertise: Experience in a VC investment environment relevant to the HCLS mandate, demonstrating sourcing, diligence, and execution skills; ownership of proposals from sourcing to IC recommendation.
Communication skills: Ability to develop external relationships, negotiate deals and serve as a brand ambassador, and to collaborate internally with shareholders and senior leadership.
Team building: Proven ability to work well in a team and contribute to team‑building initiatives.
Skills & Experiences
At least two years of experience in the finance or investment industry, preferably in VC funds, TTOs, or allocators such as SFOs, endowments, foundations, or CVCs.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience in early‑stage HCLS venture or growth‑equity sectors as an allocator.
Experience with operational planning, sourcing, closing, and management of funds and related instruments.
A postgraduate qualification relevant to the investment mandate.
