Staff R&D Engineer – Medical Devices
Location:
Franklin Lakes, NJ (4 days onsite a week)
Duration:
6+ months with possible extension/conversion (Contract#W2 Only)

Role Summary:
The Staff R&D Engineer is a key contributor on the Client Specimen Management R&D team, supporting the Specimen Acquisition Platform. This role focuses on designing, testing, and improving medical device/IVD products used for collection and analysis of biological samples. The engineer independently solves complex technical problems, supports new and existing products, and contributes to major development programs.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot medical device/IVD components and systems
Lead or support major R&D projects and, at times, serve as a technical or project lead
Develop technical solutions using sound engineering principles, DOE, and data analysis
Design and execute bench studies, verification and validation activities
Develop test methods, fixtures, and measurement systems
Perform statistical analysis and present findings to technical and business stakeholders
Design and evaluate in vitro and in vivo models for product improvements
Support material, design, and process changes through design control processes
Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams
Support development of business cases and evaluation of new technologies
Ensure compliance with quality systems and regulatory requirements
Required Skills & Experience
Strong foundation in engineering and scientific principles
Proven technical judgment and problem-solving skills
Experience leading or contributing to R&D product development projects
Knowledge of phase-gate product development and design control processes
Proficiency in CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
Experience with test method development, fixture design, DOE, and MSA
Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing and design for manufacturability
Knowledge of Six Sigma / DFSS methodologies
Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills
Experience leading small teams or cross-functional groups is a plus
FEA/CFD experience is a plus
