Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417 (Onsite 4 days per week)

Duration:

8-month contract (with possible extension)

Pay Rate:

$65/hr – $72/hr (depending on experience)

Must-Have Requirements

Proven experience leading R&D product development projects in medical device or IVD environments

Strong engineering fundamentals with first-principles problem‑solving approach

Hands‑on experience with design, testing, analysis, and troubleshooting

Solid CAD modeling experience (Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent)

Job Description The Senior R&D Engineer will support the Specimen Acquisition Platform within the Specimen Management business, contributing to R&D initiatives under the Enterprise Cost‑To‑Win (eCTW) program. This role focuses on product development and engineering support for medical device and IVD systems related to the collection, preservation, manipulation, and analysis of biological samples, including human blood. The position requires strong technical leadership, hands‑on execution, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and support design and development of advanced biomedical solutions for existing and new medical device products

Provide engineering support across development, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of systems and components

Develop independent technical approaches to complex engineering problems using sound engineering principles

Design and develop in vivo and in vitro models to evaluate product features and improvements

Execute design of experiments (DOE) using experimental, computational, and analytical methods

Develop robust test methods, design test fixtures, and perform MSA

Lead benchtop studies, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and design verification and validation activities

Interface with vendors on materials, components, and specifications

Conduct root‑cause analysis and resolve product and process issues

Perform statistical data analysis and present findings to peers and leadership

Support material, design, and process changes through formal design control processes

Act as a primary technical contact for programs, contracts, and projects

Ensure compliance with quality policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Strong background in scientific and engineering fundamentals

Demonstrated technical judgment, critical thinking, and systematic problem‑solving skills

Experience guiding teams or individuals through complex technical challenges

Proficiency with CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent)

Hands‑on experience with test method development and benchtop testing

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Additional Qualifications

Experience with design for manufacturability, including injection‑molded components

Proficiency with statistical tools, DOE, and data analysis software (e.g., Minitab)

Knowledge of phase‑gate product development processes

Familiarity with Six Sigma (DMAIC) and DFSS methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading small cross‑functional teams

Proficiency with FEA and/or CFD modeling tools

Experience in tightly controlled, regulated manufacturing environments
