Sr. Software Systems Engineer (.NET Developer)
Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer (.NET Developer) to work remotely for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Department. Full‑time, Public Trust (MBI) security clearance required. Military veterans are highly encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform technical planning, requirements definition, test planning and execution, software integration, and technical support.
Deliver software system product services: concept design, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
Participate as an active member of the development team in daily stand‑ups.
Develop full‑stack .NET back‑end applications using C#, MVC architecture, unit testing with NUnit or similar, and deploy via CI/CD pipelines.
Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness.
Provide ongoing development support for production deployments.
Implement long‑term solutions and reusable components within an Agile framework.
Interface with stakeholders for project requirements.
Promote software engineering best practices such as test automation, modularization, and simplification.
Collaborate and coordinate with colleagues on solutions and challenges.
Document software designs, including diagrams and module descriptions.
Use IDE tools such as Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, and Git.
Required Skills and Experience
Expertise in .NET Framework/.NET Core with strong C# knowledge.
Experience developing .NET back‑end applications using MVC and Core.
Strong OOP and design pattern knowledge.
RESTful API development and other API integration.
Database design and development with SQL Server and Entity Framework.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and services.
Version control experience with Git and TFVC.
CI/CD practices using tools such as AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy.
Unit testing frameworks such as NUnit, xUnit, MSTest.
Proficiency with Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.
Strong problem‑solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
Independent work and mentorship of junior developers.
Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and DevOps practices.
Security best practices for web applications and APIs, code review, performance tuning.
Professional Certifications None required.
Years of Professional Experience Eight (8) or more years of experience in software development using .NET technologies. Proven track record on complex software projects and enterprise‑level application development.
Desired Experience
Electronic Data Interchange X.12 (EDI) medical claims (837, 834, 277).
Microservices architecture and containerization (Kubernetes, ECS, EKS).
Formal Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline with 8+ years of experience;
Master’s Degree with 5+ years of experience; or
Ph.D. with 3+ years of experience.
Citizenship Requirement U.S. Citizenship required.
Security Clearance Requirements Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance.
